because you don't have to eat as much to get even more nutrients. This means you don't get to stuff junk in your mouth all day, and you have to find other ways to amuse yourself, but claiming that good food is too expensive is not a valid excuse. A pound of good food costs less two pounds of junk food, and you will be much healthier eating less, but good food.

Actually, to whomever believes frozen vegetables are less healthy than fresh, that's not really so. In fact, farmers typically sell their absolute best and ripest to the frozen food companies so it will be at its peak when frozen. Freezing doesn't really compromise the nutrients as much as it stops the decay process. Fresh produce, on the other hand, is only good if it was grown locally. If you have to ship it far, it has to be picked that much sooner and it has to sit decaying that much longer.
To answer the question, I DON'T KNOW! It seems ridiculous that people would eat crap and then complain about how they feel. The calories in a bag of Cheetos might be cheaper than those in an apple, but you'll pay dearly for those calories in the long run.

No one realizes this. But it is true in some instances. I'm a college student always looking to eat healthy. So if I'm in the grocery store, it is much more expensive to get fresh broccoli than it is to get a whole bag of the frozen for a dollar, even though a lot of the nutrients are compromised. Also, it's easier for some people to look on the surface, most people can not see "in the long run" to see that healthy food is less expensive than that bag of doritos and so on, but people don't see it. This is all my opinion, so stop me if you disagree. Also, people jsut plain like junk food, even if it is bad, they crave it all the time and think healthy food is gross! it's not, especially when its made the correct way. A lot of this comes from parents I think, we believe what our parnets told us, until we are educated eougn to realize otherwise. wow, ill stop now, way too long of a response.

Is it? Processed "boxed" food is cheaper than buying each of the components individually, but it's packed with sodium, and chemicals. Buying canned veggies is cheaper than buying fresh or frozen (and yes, frozen is actually AS healthy, or more so, than fresh, as it is at ripest when it is frozen, and it retains all of it's nutrients) but canned veggies are packed with sodium and preservatives (and don't deliver as many nutrients). And organic is a lot more expensive than non-organic (but organic has been shown to actually have more nutrients).
And McDonald's (et.al.) has a "dollar menu."
When we took the steps to start eating healthy, non-processed, organic food, our grocery bill went WAY up. Some people don't have that option.
In general, the cheaper the food, the less healthy it is.
As for "junk food" being as nutritious as "non-junk food"...really? So a bag of Cheetos is as "nutritious" as a balanced meal of lean meat, veggies, and whole-grain? If nutritious means nothing more than calories, then certainly Cheetos are MORE nutritious. But those calories are empty calories, and if someone subsists on a diet of junk food, (chips, cola, and fast food), then they will find themselves over-fed and under-nourished.

First, I think Americans have developed a taste for salty, processed food, and high fructose corn syrup and they now crave it. They are also "sheeple" and do what commercials tell them to do.
Second, I'm not so sure that healthy food is less expensive than "junk food". But even if it is more expensive in the short run, it pays off in the long run.

Hmmm...I don't know where you live but healthy food is significantly more expensive than junk food where I live and the places that I have lived. If you're a single mother of two and you have to make lunches for your kids, are you going to spend 3 dollars on a couple of apples that will feed them for one day or are you going to buy the jumbo bag of Doritoes that will get them through the next two weeks?

I agree proper food is cheaper than KFC etc but healthy food in the supermarket isn't. It's the really cheap rubbishy food such as the battery chickens, cheap pizzas and burgers etc rather than either organic or organically farmed things and free range chicken, lean meat etc.
Also the price of fresh fruit and veg is obscene.

There is no such thing as 'junk food'. Either something is food, or it is junk. It cannot be both. And so-called 'junk food' is just as nutritious as non-junk food. Often it amounts to snobbery. People are always calling hamburgers 'junk' food for instance, but nobody ever calls steak 'junk' even though they are both made from the same kind of meat. and a macdonalds hamburger and chips contains less fat than a waldorf salad, fo rinstance. We are told a lot of nonsence about food, most of which is untrue.

Governments can easily make GOOD food cheap and junk food expensive but they dont want to. Junk food is addictive. Causes illnesses, serious diseases such as cancer, makes you spotty, fat, messes up your teeth...etc. Governments cannot afford to have people eating fruit and vegetables and being healthy...hardly getting ill etc...who would pay for medicine in that case? who would pay to see the dentist? who would pay for acne cream? and liposuction?
They'd rather have you die than lose money.
Its strictly political.
