I would avoid most of the supposed miracle colon cleanse or detoxify products. The majority of them just don’t work as advertised. Instead, just get more fiber from whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables. So long as you get enough of those in your diet your system will naturally cleanse itself. Avoid the things that will gunk it up like processed foods and junk food. Be sure to drink plenty of water too.

The weight lost is waterweight which goes straight back on when you go back to eating normally. I won't be rude, but detox is a myth. The body does a perfectly good job of cleansing itself, you can upset the normal flora in the gut. Experts say there's little evidence that extreme regimens such as the Master Cleanse or Fruit Flush do anything more than lead to unpleasant, unhealthy side effects.

I have not used the master cleanse detox so will not pretend to have experience with it. I have read extensively about the "21 pounds in 21 days" also known as the "Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet" developed by a woman to help herself with various health issues. I know there are debates about the effectiveness and health implications of detox diets. You may be interested in learning more and deciding for yourself. Supposedly, a few celebrities have used the Martha's Vineyard Detox, including Robin Quivers (if you consider the co-host of Howard Stern a 'celebrity'). She has an interesting video about her experience (in the source below) Best of luck and consider all info before taking drastic steps.

I'm not sure if you need to clean your bowels before you start your diet either. I'm also a believer in the healthy diet-plenty of exercise approach, even if I don't follow it very well myself. Having said that, you might find Carol Vorderman's approach interesting. It's detox and diet all rolled into one. I did it a few years ago, and always mean to get back to it. There are some links below. Good luck whatever you do.

Detox is a myth and the basic principle behind the Master Cleanse is a detoxification fast. But he body and the colon are self cleansing. If your doctor has prescribed the iron and it does not upset your already irritated stomach lining, take it. The sugar free packets won't affect anything. As you are anaemic think again about continuing the cleanse. "Not only is this program hard to follow, and the drink hard to swallow, it is potentially dangerous as well. You are inhibiting your immune system, as well as your ability to process food. Purposefully irritating your gastro-intestinal tract is never a good idea, but salt water flushing actually removes healthy, helpful bacteria from the lining of your colon. By engaging in this practice for an extended period of time, you are effectively wiping out one of your first lines of defense against infection and sickness. In addition, prolonged fasting has many negative side effects, including all the symptoms that go along with malnutrition: insomnia, cravings, nausea, depressed mood, hair loss... the list goes on. Proponants of the Master Cleanse will tell you that these are signs that the toxins in your body are being eliminated, but you would experience the same symptoms on a water-only fast."
