Constipation?

Question: No this is no laughing matter! I get constipated each time I have a lot of anxiety. I cannot become less anxious... its a habit formed. Please tell me what to do about this after-effect of constipation! Thanks.

you should drink plenty of water and juices and you should eat a lot of fiber....if you anal openning hurts try to sat on cold water bag...i`m sure it will help.

For constipation olive oil often helps. If a table spoon of olive oil doesn't help perhaps you could keep increasing the amount. For constipation, medication is only a very temporary solution if it works. Often you get side effects. Wheat germ and wheat bran are very high fiber foods that often help for constipation. Any food that has had the fiber stripped out, the nutrients processed out or slows down the digestion is a constipation culprit. Sounds like IBS. Irritable bowel syndrome. I suffer from it and it is a bear to deal with. The doctor reccomended "citrucel" not "metamucil'(it gives gas.) He also prescribed Bentyl for cramping. He did not prescribe anti anxiety to me yet , but this is an accepted treatment. Do some research on IBS , and go to your doctor armed with a little knowledge. It will get worse if you don't treat it , and people get tired of US "bellyaching". I understand your suffering , but others won't. edit. I will also say , if " I " take laxitives , they make me miserable , and still takes a day or two to produce any movement. And stress is a major componet. I eat smaller meals , more often , and take "naps" or really just "meditate" for 20 -30 minutes till I feel a little better.

It is not an after -effect because you say it is caused by the anxiety . You should eat plenty of fruit like pears or apples when you are anxious also get married it is a good cure for costipation~~

I cant tell you anything I do the same thing when I have a lot of anxiety....Ive also have had 2 intestinal blockages

It used to happen to me when I was a teenager. Just eat more fiber during the day (apples, bananas, bran cereal, etc.) and you'll be fine.

Go to your doctors, explain the full problem. Maybe you could buy some laxatives to help. You shouldn't be embarrassed about it though, it might make it worse!

CUT BACK on the milk, it can cause you to be consitapated. It happens to my daughter all the time. Start drinking some juice. White grape juice, prune juice, apple juice are all good for helping loosing someone up. I would speak to a Dr. because they can give you a special type of liquid to drink to help your system clean itself out and keep you regular. If that doesnt work then they may need to take a different step. Normally they do not want you to stay that backed up for over a month, as it can cause you medical problems. If it is causing you to have pains down your legs then somewhere your bowels are already pushing against nerves..
