How to read the calorie listing on Food labels?

How to read the calorie listing on Food labels? Topic: How to read the calorie listing on Food labels?

Question: I was just curious if the calories per serving on a food label include the calories that are stored as the carbohydrate, protein, and total fat listed on the label as well. I mean say it has 200 calories and 12 grams is carbohydrate, does that mean the 200 calories are including the calories of the 12 grams from the carbohydrate?

Hello. Most fast food restaurants have their nutritional information available on the Web. But the time to look it up, the interest in doing it and the access to a computer would all be issues... The real question is why don't more families cook...food expense has a lot to do with it but buying fast food is actually more expensive, even if you buy the Williams 8 piece dark or McDonald's chicken nuggets all the time.... Another issue is simply knowing how to cook and teaching your children to like cooked food. Interestingly enough, this is becoming a problem all over the developed world, and not just with Black people. Even Japanese mothers have trouble somtimes keeping their kids away from the fast food.... People need to grow some food and herbs, cook, and eat what they cook.... This would help obesity issues, immensely. Oh and being active and making exercise a PRIORITY, the way Mrs. Obama and my family do...

Yes, you're right. The calories is the total calories for all the food. The carbohydrates, fat, and protein are subtotals and are included in the overall calorie count.

Your body uses more than 800 calories a day sitting perfectly still - that's a totally unhealthy way to lose weight. Your plan will cause you to continue to lose weight or to slow your metabolism further so you will gain in back quickly. A 1,200 calorie diet is still a weight loss diet by the way, even with no exercise. You have been starving yourself and your body of nutrients. How about eating a normal 1800-2000 calorie diet and incorporate exercise into your life? It will keep your metabolism up, you will get the nutrients you need and you will stop starving your body.
