Question: I've only been drinking water and eating pretzels because my doctor said i was a 10-20 pounds overweight. im 12 and in 7th grade. i don't eat lunch or breakfast anymore but only dinner cause my mom is home to make sure i am. is it unhealthy. I know people say you gain weight from not eating, but is that because you so hungrey and you want to eat everything in sight, or cause of something eles. i have been doing this since sunday, and today is thursday. iv had a headache since then and is worse everything i move and when i do move, i get dizzy and almost faint.

It isn't healthy for you. You won't gain weight from water though no. People will tell you if you don't eat then you'll gain weight. That's not true you can gain weight when there is nothing coming in. It will however start eating away your muscles not fat. Once you lose then 10-20 pounds and start eating normally you will gain weight like CRAZY and it will be so hard to get it off. I would watch your calories stick to around 1200-1500 or ask your doctor what a good number for you is. But this isn't healthy and you will regret it later. 10 pounds is nothing you could lose it in a month or two healthy and keep it off

1) Protein is only delivered differently due to the type of carbohydrate component and fat content in the drink. If you drink it with full fat milk it will take longer to digest as the fat will slow down absorption and the carbs aren't that high. If you drink it with fruit juice it will be delivered a lot quicker as the insulin spike will shuttle the protein straight in to the areas it is required (post workout). 2) Yes. If you have protein with water it will have less calories. For example: 60g Protein:236 calories 500ml Water: 0 calories TOTAL: 236 calories 60g Protein: 236 calories 500ml Orange Juice: 236 calories TOTAL: 472 calories More calories in = more weight gain provided you're eating higher than what you need for maintenance. If you have your protein immediately after a workout then make sure you have around 40g protein in it and at least 80g of simple carbohydrates. At any time through the rest of the day its better to eat solid protein, or have a protein shake made with water and a solid, complex carbohydrate. Ps. Also make sure that you're drinking a protein shake and not a meal replacement shake. The tell tale sign is the amount of carbohydrates in your shake. A standard 60g of protein shake will be around 50g protein, 5g of carbs and 5g of fat. If the carbs and fat are higher than this, its most likely loaded with sugar and other rubbish.
