Question: So. I see a lot of people saying counting calories is the best/fastest most efficient way to lose weight. But professional trainers say to cut down on your carbohydrates ( a low carbohydrate diet ) if you want to lose weight. Why do so many people think calorie counting is more important that counting net carbohydrates? I know there are different types of carbohydrates. What I am talking about here is counting net carbohydrates - carbs from bad sugars. I lost 50lbs counting my net carbohydrates in 2 months alone - no added exercise. Every time I tried only counting/managing a low calorie diet I didn't lose any weight at all. So I am confused why people keep telling others that counting calories is the way to go... Especially when professionals say you will see better results with a low carbohydrate diet.

There is some confusion, because Energy Reduction really is the MOST RELIABLE way to lose WEIGHT. But if you want to lose BODYFAT, the most EFFECTIVE way to do that is by gaining weight. However, most people think (wrongly, of course) that being heavier is the same as being fatter. Carbohydrate control CAN have a dramatic effect on your bodyfat, but it only works for some people, and just like any other dietary technique, it becomes less effective each time you use it. Focusing on 'bad sugars' is one way to perform a carb control cut; other dieters have found that limiting their starch intake is even more effective. Again, this happens to SOME people, while others can perform exactly the same restriction and experience very little benefit or none at all.

Almost every diet pill out there contains caffeine, caffeine containing herbs, loads of B vitamins, or ingredients that are supposed to make you feel full(appetite suppressant). Not one you can buy at the grocery is approved by any medical, regulatory, or dietary organization. Alli is the only FDA approved over the counter diet pill you can buy. It is the only diet pill that has accepted clinical trials behind it to prove it does what the manufacturer says. All the others use in house clinical "studies" to support their claims. Really bad 1994 law that allows this junk to be sold as dietary supplements, not an approved drug. Let's pretend any of these "thermogenic" diet pills really do what they say. The thermic effect of eating, digesting, and other food energy related functions only account for 10% of your total BMR (basal metabolic rate). So if you are fairly active a diet of 2000 calories per day is pretty reasonable for a maintenance diet. That means 200 calories go to thermic burn. Now let's say these wonderful diet pills increase your thermic burn by 50%. That is a huge change in any body function. So we have increased our caloric burn by??.... 100 calories per day! Or less than one pound per month. For anywhere from $40 to $200 a month. You can burn 100 calories a day just drinking 100 oz of ice cold beverages! That is why these bogus and often dangerous pills cannot get FDA approval. They simply cannot prove their outrageous claims with acceptable clinical evidence. Read the container and you will see each and every one of them says somewhere on the label it is a "dietary supplement'. Loopholes in the current laws allow peddlers to promote their products without accepted medical evidence to prove their outrageous claims. All this stuff is putting your liver and kidneys through a lot of unnecessary and potentially dangerous activity. Many spices like chili powder, different peppers, garlic powder, cinnamon and others cause an increase in the thermic affect of food. But come on, you can eat pennies per day of seasonings and get the same benefit as these diet pills. A healthy diet of whole unprocessed foods will give you much greater results. Most use "price point" marketing. "Hey, it's only $20". But few users realize that is only a 7 or 10 day supply. So you are actually spending $60 to $80 a month! They may help you lose a pound or two a month so you are paying $30 to $80 a pound. The "free trial" programs bill you $3.95 and then before you know it they pop you for another $100 for another 30 or 60 day supply you didn't realize you signed up for. Even if you successfully return the unused product within the narrow window allowed they still make money off the shipping and handling fees. Counting overall calories can help reduce the amount of carbs you eat. I have PCOS (without insulin resistance but I'm still greatly affected by a large carb/sugar intake) so I have to watch both my calorie intake and my junk food intake to lose weight. The best solution I've found for weight loss is to watch how much sugar I get, stay under a certain amount of calories (both of which control my carb intake), and eat more fruits and vegetables. Low carb does work but it's not maintainable for everyday life for life. It's a diet, not a lifestyle change. It's much easier to get used to eating less than getting used to not eating a lot of carbs because it's not realistic for everyone, everyday...most people can only do it for so long.

You need to limit your total calorie count and eat a balanced diet between milk, fruits, vegetables, protein, and carbs. Carbohydrates are essential to your well being and the only source of "food" for your brain. The problem with carbs is that any excess gets converted to fats. Balance equal amounts of protein and carbs where 1 oz meat or cheese is protein and 1 slice of bread is carb. If you are not active, a little exercise like just walking every day will really boost your weight loss.

Be sensible. Crazy goals like losing two dress sizes in two weeks will almost always end inside tears, lost motivation and greater little comfort eating. You can only ever resemble a thinner you – so set standards you realize you can achieve.

When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together. And no food after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If you don't eat wheat then you don't eat all those sticky, fatty goey cakes, you don't eat junk food, and you don't eat biscuits. But your diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising, start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack, disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target your problem areas for men and women. It's not necessarily to become a bodybuilder or even join a gym - a couple of dumbbells will help you to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).
