Question: is biotin a vitamin that makes your hair thicker? and is that a vitamin you can buy where the rest of them in grocery/drug stores are at? [[like vitamin a,d,c etc.]]

Biotin is good for your hair but it takes a very long time before you see any difference since hair grows slowly. Only new hair growth is effected by nutrients. What is old and ratty now will stay that way until you cut it off. You can get Biotin naturally in foods. Egg yolks is one example but there are others as well. You can get vitamins that are formulated especially for hair and nails that have extra nutrients in them that help over time. The problem with taking a special formula like that is that it leaves out other nutrients you might need such as iron. If you were to take a regular multivitamin and one for hair and nails then you will be getting way too much of other nutrients because they would both contain some. So keep that in mind. It is not good to get too much of any type of vitamin from a pill. It is not an issue when we are getting them from foods though because our body knows what to do with them.

Biotin alone is not going to do that for your hair, that's like have a car and not use gas. You need all the healthy foods from Mother Nature, not just biotin. It is true that Biotin can cause breakouts, but it varies. I'm 16 and I took one 2500 MCG Biotin capsule, and within about 3 or 4 hours I noticed my skin starting to breakout with several red bumps on my face. But friend of mine has been taking Biotin for several years with no problems at all. The only way you'll really be able to tell is if you try it. It could take a few hours for you to breakout, or a few days. Or you just won't breakout at all. If you do breakout, just discontinue your use of it and your skin will clear up within a few days. So yes there is a chance that your can get a breakout, but there's no way to really know unless you try it. If you try it and you do breakout though, don't panic. It will clear up quickly after you stop using it. I've heard that if you drink a lot of water, you won't/are less likely to breakout. I'm not big on drinking water as frequently as I should so that may have contributed to my problem. I also heard that taking other vitamins like B-complex (I think that's what it's called) along with Biotin create some sort of balance so that you won't breakout. Biotin is a part of the B complex family of vitamins and also known as Vitamin H, and i don't think so if biotin thicken your hair..
