My cocker spaniel has recently started pushing around his food in his bowl and won't eat the dog food. Why!?
Topic: My cocker spaniel has recently started pushing around his food in his bowl and won't eat the dog food. Why!?
April 23, 2019 / By Antony Question:
He will drink water (which is in a bowl that look exactly like the food bowl) and so I don't understand his logic... it is getting very annoying. I thought maybe he didn't like the food he was on, so I went to a dog food that I know he likes and has always liked. Does the same thing. And the food he started doing this on was one I had fed him that I knew he liked also. Why does he do this? How can I stop it?

As long as she is still eating, then going to the bathroom normally, I wouldn't worry about it, but you can certainly mention it to your vet while you have your update.
For a very long time my dog would grab a mouthful of food, walk out of the kitchen to the living room and drop the kibble on the carpet. Never anything wrong with her.
Also, is her food the same, or did you change it recently? Has this happened with a new bag of food, even if it is the same brand/flavor. Maybe the bag had a new scent that she isn't liking.
Try giving your doc something different(human food) like a raw piece of bacon, if he doesnt eat that.
Maybe u should take him to the vet, because he probably has a stomache.

He may be having tooth pain, many dogs refuse to eat while there teeth hurt. Make sure you are feeding him wet meaty food, if he continues in the same way take him to the vets :-)

If he's a good eater normally and has stopped there might be something wrong.. Dogs just don't eat, they'll eat anything they see as food. You may want to take him to the vet.

He might be allergic to the food and he knows it instinctively.
Try a hypoallergenic food.
They're only available at a vet clinic.
If that's not the problem, speak to your vet about it, and he might get some conclusions.

Here are the options....which really shouldn't be options at all-
The cat may have an intestinal blockage. His symptoms are classic. This will cause him not to eat because it is painful-
He needs abdominal x-rays to determine if this is the cause.
The fact that your kitty had FIV is a great indicator for Lymphona. Cats with FIV have about a 70% increase in risk for this.
He needs a basic wellness blood panel. If his Calcium is up, ( above 11.3) you can pretty much bet that it is cancer. It can be treated with Prednisone.
Liver and/or Kidney disease...Renel Failure....again, requires basic Bloodwork to determine. Although these levels may be off because of the amount of time the cat has been allowed to stave. Starvation, shuts these organs down first-
These are basic wellness tests that should be done anyway, to give you an health reference to look back at if you ever need to.
Please get this poor cat to the vet, if only to euthanize.
It sounds like this may have already gone on too long...poor cat.
And by the way, starving is the most painful way to die,in case you didn't know. Please do not aquire any more animals if you cannot afford to properly care for them. I mean that in the kindest way possible-
