Cat Likes To Eat Food Outside of Bowl.?

Cat Likes To Eat Food Outside of Bowl.? Topic: Cat Likes To Eat Food Outside of Bowl.?

Question: Hey, Whenever I give my cat (female adult, indoor/outdoor) her food bowl (put it next to hear, rattle it so she goes to it, etc.), she always sniffs it and hesitates. But if I take some of the food out (dry kibble stuff) and put it next to her, she sniffs it and eats it all up. Only when she's really hungry does she go and eat by herself from the bowl. Should I stop feeding her outside of the bowl? Thanks!

Do you wash the bowl regularly? Cats don't want to use dirty dishes any more than you would! If you keep it really clean, then for some reason, she doesn't like that bowl. Get her a different one. If she's currently got a plastic one, she may not like the plastic odor. Might smell too much like her litter box! Try her on a ceramic one, instead. I feed my cats their canned food on a saucer sized paper plate. Just the right size, and no clean-up, I just toss them when they're done (Putting them in a corner or putting a piece of double sided tape on the bottom keeps them from traveling around the kitchen)! I leave dry kibble out for them in a bowl all the time, so they can just help themselves when they're hungry. I haven't had any problems with them. I don't see any harm in feeding your cat outside the bowl. I've seen many, including my own, who frequently take a bite from their bowl to eat on the floor, they seem to prefer it that way. I think it's easier for them, since they can't actually see what they're doing. They might be singling out the piece they're eating. Whatever works for your cat! She knows what she likes, and what she doesn't. Her only problem is getting you to understand her. Good luck!

My cat does that to. She will have to get her food wet before she will eat it. It could be that your cat doesn't like that flavor. I know mine wont eat anything with a meaty flavor, only the vegitable kind. Maby you could try that. Im almost certain that your cat will eat when she's hungry.

As long as she does go to the bowl and eat when she is really hungry I think you should be fine. Maybe the cat isn't eating much because she is eating things outside. I would leave it in the bowl and watch her to make sure she doesn't get too skinny but otherwise don't worry about sprinkling food on the floor for her. My cat likes to pick up a mouthful of food then spit it out on the floor and eat it.

My cats all do this.... When I am feeding them their dry food, if I spill any at all on the floor, all of a sudden it's like the best thing in the world for them and they will eat all of the food off the floor before they even consider eating it out of the bowl. I think that they think it's "special" or a treat or something.... I think your cat is probably fine and just prefers it off the floor. I wouldn't be concerned since she is eating from the bowl sometimes. Also maybe her bowl is slightly dirty and needs to be cleaned? More than likely she is just a pampered princess and knows what she wants and knows how to get it!!!

because it is trying to 'cover it's food' ,, like if it was out in the wild. so the food would be there when it wanted it again. if it is 'covered' no other animal would be able to smell it. so it is doing that by instinct. even tho it is covering it with nothing ,,, it is still ,,, in his mind ,,, covering it with 'something'. my cats do that all the time. i think it is so cute.
