Question: I had two surgerys within a weeks time. For over a week I haven't been able to....well, you know. My doctor has me taking over the counter stuff but it doesn't really help. Anyone know a site on nutrition for that or what foods would help. Thank you!

* Avoid single high concentrated meals. * Small frequent meals, more times in a day. * Food high in fibre content like vegetables, whole pulses, fruits, etc. Ideal combination of diabetic diet should be:-- Carbohydrates: 55-60%. Fat: 30%. Proteins: 15-20% (0.8g /kg /body wt). Fibres 40 g/day. DIABETIC DIET Do not eat at all:-- Sugar, jam, syrups, honey, sweets, chocolates, fruit juices, ice creams, cold drinks, glucose drinks, cakes and pastries, sweet biscuits, puddings and protein powder with sugar. Eat in moderation:-- Bread, chapatis, oat porridge, cornflakes (No sugar), Cheese, butter, Noodles or spaghetti, macroni, Thick soups, Milk & milk products, Chicken, lean meat, fish. Take unrestricted:-- * Salads (cucumber, tomato, onion, raddish, salad leaves). * Vegetables (cabbage, baigan, lady fingers, french beans, methi, palak). * Fruits (except banana, chockoo or mangoes). * Sprouted beans and pulses. * Marie biscuit (with less sugar). * Clear soups, Lemon juice, Buttermilk Consult a dietitian.

Stool softeners. Don't take Dulcolax. You will get the stomach pains from HELL. Fiber, fiber, fiber. Try Fiber One cereal. Eat a bowl of that every morning....(or twice today since you are backed up) and I promise that you will have success!

I agree with Mopar. Coffee does it for me every morning. And taco bell makes it come out both ends. If you frequently get constipated, I would reevaluate your diet and maybe look into other health issues like hypothyrodism. It can cause frequent constipation.

Anything with a lot of fiber or starch. Breads and rices will do good. Also some vegies. Hope you feel better.

I believe psyllium seed husks, oat bran, whole wheat bread and similar things with fiber and also magnesium, although I'm not an expert.

you want to be eating food with a low glycaemic index (takes longer for the vody to absorb) as this avoids a sudden sugar spike and then drop. Things like brown rice and pasta and wholegrain breads are good. Try googling low GI diet and there should be lots of things that you can try. You want to be checking whenever you feel low and then give it 20 minutes after you've eaten to check again as food can take this long to start working. Try and eat regularly, lots of small meals is better than a few big ones as it distributes your carbs more evenly. Hope you get it sorted soon!
