Question: I am training for a 5K and I'm reducing my carbs and looking for a low-carb bread that used to buy. Perhaps no one does the Atkins diet any longer and that's why? Any advice on a good low-carb bread?

Lots of stores no longer carry these products. This is very frustrating. I can find Healthy Life Bread http://www.healthylifebread.com/ . It has 5 carbs per serving. Check out Keto, Carbolite and Atkins at http://www.lowcarb.ca/store/bread.html . I also can find low carb pasta. Don't know if you are interested, but this product is the best! http://www25.netrition.com/dreamfields_p... It is really annoying that incorrect news about Atkins's death decreased use of this diet! Worse yet substitute products for pasta and bread help me get down to my goal weight. Once these products were not as easy to get, I gave in to eating food that I shouldn't! I am trying again. People that think that Atkins is bad for you should write down how much sugar they eat Evey week. On Atkins I eat a much purer diet. The occasional splurge of bread or pasta is needed, I just wish it were easier to find in a low-carb form.

My brother and my dad went on the Atkins diet. My dad has actually done it a couple of times. It works fairly quickly (my brother lost about 20 pounds in a couple of months), but when they decided to eat bread again, it all came back SO quickly. My brother actually ended up heavier than he was when he started. Truth be told, I don't know everything there is to know about Atkins. My brother and dad may not have done it right; I am now aware there are different 'phases'. I don't believe it is the healthiest way to lose weight, as whole grains are sooo good for you, but it works for a lot of people. I would never endorse it, though. I'd recommend a more balanced diet. If you are worried about carbs, simply eliminate white breads, pastas, and junk food from your diet. Switch to whole grain, and eat lots of fruits and veggies!

I was on the atkins diet for 2 weeks in highschool - I lost about 10lbs in that time, but could not stand it after that. I was just craving fruit, vegetables, and the like... but that craving helped me to eat better when I finally came off of that diet and as a result, I was able to keep the weight off. Rather than go totally carbless, I would reccomend just cutting out white carbs - bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes. If you want bread, go for wheat or wholegrain, get enriched egg noodles instead of regular pasta, have brown rice instead of white, and eat smashed potatoes with the peel in SMALL amounts if you must have them. Try giving up soft drinks and junk food. Reach for fruits and veggies instead of fatty foods. While atkins did work for me, a few years later (due to inactivity in college) I gained back a lot of the weight I had kept off. Since January, I've adopted a healthier lifestyle, and through good exercise and better nutrition, I've been keeping off the ~25lbs i've lost. =) Its far more balanced and you can sustain it as a lifestyle, rather than just a temporary "diet".

There is no longer the commercial demand for low-carb "products". This is partly because the "craze" seems to have passed and those who want a miracle diet have moved on to the next big thing. It's also because most of the ones who are still doing Atkins tend to stay away from processed foods and stick with real foods like fresh fruits and veggies, real meats etc.

My Husband did the Atkins and he lost about 10lbs in just a few weeks. He couldn't do it any longer, it drove him crazy not being able to have bread and only snacking on bacon. My Father in Law is constantly on and off the Atkins diet. He lasted about a year when he originally did it and he lost a bunch of weight, but his breath got really bad.
