DVDs for weight training for women? Topic: DVDs for weight training for women?

Question: I'm looking for a DVD that would guide me in weight training for a woman. I'm currently a complete weakling. I'm 138 pounds and hope to drop down to 120 if not 115. I'm starting 15 minutes of cardio ellipitical every day and want to add weights into my training but into the amount of actually gaining strength, not just toning. any ideas on how to get start, easy home equipment? i'd like to just use dumbbells (10 pounders max is this is enough?), and DVDs that would be great to start with. any ideas are appreciated thank you!

It's great to see that you are a women who is not afraid to use weights. I don't know of any dvd's for women but weight training for male and females should be done in the same manner. Exercises that are effective for males are equally as effective as for females. Just make sure whatever work routine you choose that you target your whole body and not just your butt and tummy as that will yield results a lot faster. Good luck =) Mat www.i-want-abs.com

By all means ,have you ever seen the pay gap between a professional male hockey player and what they pay those poor women? Maybe an attorney will get wind of this and sue the bastards that run those organizations. I have learned here at GWS that women are just as capable as men in every area and they can have babies too. I wish you luck in your fight for what is right.

Women have played in the NHL. I'm not sure if there are specific rules prohibiting them from playing in the NBA or NFL, if there are I strongly suspect they would be ammended if a woman had the necessary (or close to it) talent. EDIT TO ADD: As for 'marketing' there are plenty of owners who would love the publicity of having a woman play. While the female NHL goaltenders who played a few games were very good players, it is somewhat questionable if any of them would have played were they male. There's a big demand to see a woman try. Its not inconceivable to me that a supremely talented, 6'3" woman could make it as a point guard in the NBA.

No need to waste money on DVD's hit you tube and watch a few videos on proper form for use with dumbbells, and that should get you started. Try to alternate your body parts. Like do upper body M,W,F that is arms chest back. Then T,Th,Sa work your legs, butt and abs. Then rest on Sunday. Always warm up with the cardio. If you feel like you must have something to help keep you focused I used Power 90 after my kids were born, but I'd do it with P90X now if I wasn't a member of the YMCA. Also try your local second hand shops that carry Movies, you would be surprised how many of these great work out tapes and DVD's end up there.

I use these two workout videos a lot: "Tony Horton's 10 minute trainer"; that ones really good because you can choose from yoga, cardio, or upper body/lower body strengthening. And each one is only 10 minutes long. And "Crunch; hips, butt, and thighs". I do that one almost every day. Its 40 minutes long but it has a combination of toning and cardio exercises.
