My daughter is five days old and starting today she just stopped making poopy diapers... she is quit fussy and cant really sleep or eat like she had before now... what can I do to help her out? My mother says to wait it out and call her doctor if she doesnt go by tomorrow, but I hate seeing her so uncomfortable and I am really getting worn out after 24 hours of really no sleep...

First of all, you are getting some REALLY BAD advice above.
We need to know, is your baby breastfed or formula fed? Breastfed babies do not get constipated. It is possible, that she's constipated if she's on formula, but not likely this early in life. She's brand, brand new and her system is just starting to get used to processing milk. That's why it's so dangerous to feed her juice or anything that isn't milk.
It is NORMAL for breastfed babies to go days without making a poop. Breastmilk is so perfect that sometimes there is no waste to expel. Just last week my 11 week old went for 5 days without pooping (he just stored it up for a big explosion.)
Do NOT feed your 5 day old baby apple juice, syrup, water or anything else that isn't milk--that kind of intake can damage her insides, _permanently_.
Also, constipation refers to the consistency of the poop, not how often they poop. If she poops occasionally and it's liquid, she's not constipated. If she poops and it's hard pellets, like adult poo, she IS constipated and she needs to see a doctor before trying any home remedies, especially in a baby that little.
If her poop comes out like grape jelly that is a medical emergency and call an ambulance.
Your mom is right, wait it out. Trust her little body and wait until tomorrow.

She is probably just constipated. This can happen if they have had a lot of fiber in their diet and not enough water among other reasons but these are most common. I have the same problem with my dog from time to time. Usually a little bit of milk gets things softened up and going. Hope this helps.
You can try a gentle massage to her abdomen and while she is laying on her back, take her legs and push them up so her knees are to her chest. This will sometimes relieve her of some of the discomfort and move things along. Good luck, I hope this helps

I am with your mom. However, if she continues to be uncomfortable, a small dab of karo syrup and distilled water should help her.
You may want to reevaluate your formula. If it has iron, perhaps it is too much. Discuss it with your ped.

Jeez it might be the formula if so or maybe if your breastfeeding you should change your diet.
I would consider giving the baby pear juice with a little water.

the best thing to do is give them either warm water to drink, or diluted apple juice. I have three daughters, i understand where ur coming from. If it doesn't help call your doctor, good luck!!

could have whats called fecal impaction, make sure that your diet is high in fiber and water. Also make sure to eat low fat foods as that can make it harder to pass your bowl movements. Also when you do have a bowel movement , i know this may sound gross but look at it to make sure there is no blood, or foul odor or that it looks off color. If its any of the 3 it could be some type of condition. I would also be very careful when taking a laxative because they can be harmful to your intestinal system I would recommend getting gentle laxative, also try prune juice i know it might sound nasty but it helps to soften the stools. Also it could be medications that you are taking , if you are taking any
