Question: I was recently 240, i've dropped down to 210 and added a nice amount of lean muscle by weight lifting a dieting.. I generally skip breakfast, eat a salad for lunch and a sensible dinner with a lot of water throughout the day. I work out every other day, on days I work out I have a 32 gram protein shake before, and a 52 gram whey protein shake after. Everyday I take in supplement form: 1 Multivitamin (centrum) 1 vitamin c tablet 3 fish oil omega 3 tablets 2 acai berry extract tablets I am thinking about adding a vitamin D, and a Co-Q-10.. would this be a good idea, and is there anything else I should be taking..? Any help would be great.

Vitamin A, C and E Minerals Zinc and Selenium Cause exercise causes a lot of free radicals in the body and they are the best anti-oxidants going. You should be right with the D from your multvitamin and sun exposure.

Well you didn't mention how old you are but are you really taking 3 multi-vitamins a day? That is too much of a good thing. Only take one multivitamin a day, that is what they are designed for. And yes you can suffer negative health consequences if you have too much of certain vitamins. Ok I just realized that your multi-vitamin is a 3 a day supplement which seems a little excesssive. You may way want to switch to a one a day vitamin. You may also be overdoing it with the Salmon oil since it looks like Salmon is a regular part of your diet. Other than a multi-vitamin many of those additional supplements are just that - meant to supplement parts of your diet that are missing. The real thing is always better than a supplement and your diet is by far better than the average persons. The protein powder did seem a little excessive but you also have a very vigorous workout regiment so it is probably fine. Next time you are at the doctor I would run this by him as well.

Yes. You probably already know that you are overdoing it. All of that protein is going into the toilet. Along with most of the chewables and the vitamins. Your body can produce large , powerful muscles with only a tiny amount of meat, cheese, or even peanuts. And you don't even need to eat them every day. Sometimes it is psychological. You just feel stronger when you ingest the pills or powders. As if they were "proof" that you are pushing your body for maximum results. Your diet is almost perfect in its balance.

well do you plan to keep gaining muscle? cause if so you need to not skip breakfast and on days that you lift you want to double your caloric intake. when having a protein shake it's actually good to have one in the morning then have one right after your workout

I would go to a doctor for a checkup first and have bloodwork done. This will tell him if you require any further supplements in your diet. At this time you can ask for a referral to a registered dietician who will assist you with your choices.

I don't think it is a good idea to take too many vitamins at once. It will just be wasteful and unnecessarily. Your body can only absorb so much in one day. When your body cannot absorb anymore of the vitamins you swallowed, it will only come out in your urine. In another word, "You will be paying for very expensive urine."(Sheldon Cooper, Bazinga) You won't have any side effect because vitamins are not harmful products. Cut down on the amount of vitamins you are taking to only 1 or 2 pills, perhaps the ones you need the most.
