I did a research some time ago and Alli pills seemed to work for everybody (http://www.alli.bestwaytoweightloss.com ), however I would only go for pills if nothing else worked.
Well this might be not the answer you expect probably, but if I were you I would first try to do it without pills.
I lost over 20 Lbs in a few weeks just by changing my eating habits! You can find all info about how to do that at http://www.bestwaytoweightloss.com/weight_losing_diet , this website has absolutely everything that you ever need to lose weight! Everything explained very well.
The main idea is the right foods at the right timing, plus loads of water. That diet generator is ESSENTIAL, well it costs a bit, but is much cheaper than pills and really solves the problem!

There are some things you can do. First, to start losing weight follow these three simple steps.
1. Eat a healthy breakfast each morning.
2. Drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water each day (a little more if you can).
3. Don't eat after 7pm.
Eating breakfast each day will help curb your appetite. Drinking water will help you stay full through the day, not to mention, it's healthy for you in and of itself. Not eating late at night will make sure you don't pack the calories on while you sleep.
Diet is the most important (in my opinion). But exercise is a great way to burn calories. If you can, do aerobic exercise for 20 minutes, four days per week. If you can do more in a few weeks, increase the number of minutes you exercise, or days, and you will burn even more calories.
If you want a great resource to plan your meals each day, use the MyPyramid.gov Menu Planner. It's free and you can find it at http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/planner/launchPage.aspx.
You can also find some great resources (free) at http://a-healthy-life.com/lose-weight-healthy.html#anchor_35. Use the Instant Health Tool there to figure out how many calories you should eat each day to lose weight. It's a great tool.
Also, you can get some more free tips by reading an article at http://ezinearticles.com/?Top-3-Ways-to-Lose-Weight-and-Burn-Fat---The-Healthy-Way!&id=3227932.
I hope that helps. Good luck!
There are many different types of "diet pills" and some work better than others so you need to first understand how and why they work to choose the right one for you. Read some of the articles about this available online at http://www.weightlossfatloss.us/diet_pills.asp

Actually, you don't need to diet as such to lose weight, the sole diet that clearly showed results for me was wu-yi tea, it can be checked out in the resource box underneath, they have a few free trials left, it has been featured in Fox News and CNN. I melted away thrity pounds, it clearly does produce results!

Yes! The spotting is definitely b/c of the rapid weight loss. My guess is, it'll stop after you get your regular period and then it probably won't occur unless you go thru another rapid weight loss or gain. : )
