I have a three year old indoor cat that just hasn`t lost any weight.I have tried everything, but I have lost hope. Some things I did to get him to lose weight is I bought him a harness so we can go outside and excersice and I have tried every cat toy on earth. Also another thing I did was throwing around treats to get him to move but that failed also.When we got him he never really played with the other cats, all he did was eat. I think he is fat because he does not move much. So far we having been feeding him the right amount of food, but he is still overweight. I hope that you can help because I am starting think how this is shortning his life.

My vet told me that my cat needed to lose a few pounds, and he suggested we put out a known amount of food (3 cups, 4 cups,) for two days and measure how much was left so we would then know how much our cat liked to eat in a day. Our cat ate about a cup a day. From then on we were to eliminate a third of that amount, so now in the morning I give my cat a 1/3 cup of food and around dinner time I serve him another 1/3 cup.
You mentioned that you are giving your cat the "right amount" of food, but is that according to the packaging? That may be too much for him if he has a slow metabolism or something. My cat lost 2 pounds after several weeks and all we had to do was feed him just a little bit less.
Also, treats as a reward for moving hardly seems like a good idea. Isn't that kind of like eating a cupcake as a reward for walking a few blocks? :)

You can lose 5-20 pounds in a week, it wont be healthy and when you come off your diet your probably balloon to an even bigger size as your body prepares for another stupidly insane fast.
You should only be looking to lose 1-2 pounds of fat any more will be due muscle waste (muscle also helps burn fat).
You have 11 days to lose weight so you will probably be able to lose 3 pounds.
My advise pop some diet pills and report back im interested in how much a person could physically lose within that time.

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. The best food for cats does not contain any grains at all.
Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food.

What are you feeding him? If it is poor quality dry food, that can contribute to obesity. It is too high in carbs and "empty calories". Feed your cat canned food at meal times. He could have 3 canned meals per day, or two canned meals with a portion of good quality, meat-based dry food for a snack. Good quality foods contain real meat as the main ingredient, not by-products or grains such as corn. Some examples of good quality meat-based dry foods are Wellness, Innova, Instinct, and B.G. (Before Grain). Avoid rapid weight loss because cats are prone to hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) if they do not eat or if they lose too much weight too fast.
How did he do with the harness and leash?

Put him on a good diet food. Take his daily rations and break it up into several small piles. Hide them around the house. I use little saucers and move them daily. The effect is that the cat has to "hunt" for it's meals.
Walking him on harness is good also. Have you tried a laser pointer? I have not met a cat yet who wont climb the walls trying to catch that lil red dot!

I'm going to tell you how I lost about 45 lbs. I used diet pills, taken 2-3 times a day before meals, and ran 2 miles a day before bed after eating supper. I ate the best I could (healthy choice) or progressive soups in a can..and snacked between meals with healthy stuff when the pains hit hard!!!! Also started to drink diet pop instead of sugar pop, and cut down on beer drinking to about 6-8 beers per week and only on weekends. If you snack between meals during the day it tricks your body into burning fat all the time. Also if taken before meals the diet pills will help you feel more full so you don't get the pains as often. Oh yeah (avoid sugar and bad carbs at all cost). If you can maintain this schedule you should be good for about 40 lbs. in 90-120 days, especially if you are overweight like I was because the water weight will fall off, like 10-15 lbs. in the first 2-3 weeks.
