Not losing any weight on the atkins diet?
Topic: Not losing any weight on the atkins diet?
July 19, 2019 / By Berkeley Question:
I have been on the atkins diet for 5 weeks and my weight has stayed constant for 5 days. I can't figure out what is wrong with me!!! Last time I did it I was losing one pound every 2 days. I think I sometimes had 30 grams of carbohydrate in one day as opposed to 20 grams but most people can eat 50 grams of carbohydrate and still lose weight. I had cheese but made sure that the cheese contains no carbohydrates and I would overeat during the day.

Well, from what I know, the atkins diet is focused solely on meat right? I've tried this diet and it worked for a while, but then it stopped and I found out why. All that meat I was eating, had high levels of salt in it, and you know consuming a lot of salt will make you retain and possibly gain water weight. So, my guess is that, unless it's fresh lean meat that your eating, like fish, chicken, turkey, all cooked at home without salt, your holding on to water weight because of high sodium levels.

Not sure what Atkins says about this, but you still need to keep track of your total calorie intake during the day. Even with low carbs, a lot of the foods Atkins recommends are very high in calories, especially cheese.
Find a chart to figure out what your maximum & minimum calorie intakes should be for your age, weight, build, and activeness levels. If you're going over the max, you're going to gain weight, or at least never lose any.
Meanwhile, don't forget some exercise. ;)

You must be doing something wrong then, or eating (or drinking) something that you are not allowed. When I was on the Atkin's diet I lost 7 kilos and I don't really even need to lose weight.

well, the more you loose the harder it is to shed. thats life.
and by the way, the atkins diet is not the best. it can really hurt your body and when you go off of it you will gain a lot back.
do it the happy way- eat what you want in moderation (only sweets on weekends though) and excersise about 3-4 times a week and you will loose just as much weight.

It is not just the protein that is good in the Atkins diet, the fat is also helpful. Fat creates satiation. Very few people know this, but fat stimulates your metabolism. A low-fat diet is actually a very bad idea. (Read the book Good Calories Bad Calories by Gary Taubes.) They did a study where one group was on the Atkins diet and another group was on a "well-balanced" low fat diet. The calories were kept identical. The Atkins group lost much more weight.
