Won't happen in 2 months without liposuction. There are no short cuts despite what all those infomercials tell you.
How do you know the 40 lbs is mostly fat? What is your body fat percentage? Are you male or female?
Consult with your physician to make sure you are clear to enter an intense exercise program. If you want to lose weight you will have to build muscle, that is the fastest way. Muscle burns more calories at resting rate. So get yourself a personal trainer or go buy a good book that will show you basic exercises to do. Buy a heart rate monitor and calculate your AT (anaerobic threshold) so you know which zones you need to work out in order to burn fat. Standard way to calculate your AT is 180 minus your age. Add 10 if you are already athletic or work out often.
Resistance training 45 minutes, 3x's a week, followed by 30 minutes of cardio in zone 3
Cardio interval training 1 hour 3x's a week on the days you don't do resistance. Stay in zone 3 - 5 throughout the full hour.
Stick to a diet of 5 small meals per day equal to 1300 calories per day (if female)
Diet should be rich in leafy green veggies, fruits, whole grains, legumes, lean meat (salmon/turkey) and low fat dairy.

in the morning, i suggest cheerios. They are simple and fairly healthy. Lunch something like a salad will be good, a ham sandwich is also good, make sure to keep the sandwich fairly boring maybe some roast beef, lettuce and mustard. dinner i usually eat grilled chicken salad. im not a nutritionist but i want to help you so that's why food choice isn't my strong point. you cant give up, it will be very very hard to lose weight. Tai Chi is an old Chinese workout that is one of the most effective workouts you will ever do. it may seem simple and not feel like much but 3 hours will burn up to around 700 calories(for your weight). It will build up muscle and make you mentally and physically stronger, i highly highly HIGHLY recommend it. If you want to try it at home first, there is a beginners system that will teach you the basics of taichi, and it is very good. ill give you a link to it on amazon, but i know for fact target sells them. GOOD LUCK!
stay away from pastas, bread(sandwiches are ok), no sweets like ice cream, no pop will also help you lose weight, drink lots of water, no fast food what so ever, if you want things to snack on get baked chips, and fruits.
carry five grocery bags from the car to the kitchen and put the food away take out the trash wash the dishes and wipe down the kitchen counter

never eat any snack food out of the box carton or bag it came in you re less likely to overeat if you separate snacks into appropriate fist sized servings

Great question. I can relate at the beginning of the year I weighed 191lbs I am now 174.8lbs. I started on a popular weight loss program, with prepackaged frozen foods. I just chose to stop eating the frozen foods because it's easier for me to prepare the same meals for my boyfriend and I. So...I do go to my weight loss center to weigh in every week and sometimes I buy their snacks or vitamin bars. I go for the support. Now...I bought a Calorie King 10 week food journal and the Calorie King calorie book. All from Barnes and Noble. In the front of the book is a good diet program. 1200 calories a day. You can also write in your water consumption any exercise you've done for the day. A close friend and I try to encourage each other to do our workouts and eat well. I'm 5' 4" so my weight range is 120-140 and I'm 45 yrs old. I"m getting married next year in September so I have some time to get to my goal. I exercise on a Bowflex Treadclimer 3 txs a week for 30 minutes. I'm not super fanatical about working out or eating right that's why its taking me so long. Oh and I bought a food scale to weigh my meat portions. I prepare my meat at the beginning of the week. Turkey patties, boneless, skinless chicken some fish sometimes. Lots of veggies, fruit only 2 txs a day low fat dairy, and whole grains. Brown rice, wheat toast and wheat bagels. Oh and something I HIGHLY recommend...do write everything down that you eat. You need to eat enough, and balanced, and healthy. You can do it. Dont get discouraged if your weight doesn't move as fast as you want it too. Best wishes

Depending on your height that might not be as "sad" as you think.
I would suggest a 6 day routine that goes like this:
Day 1: Weight Training
Day 2: Cardio, something as simple as walking, biking, or swimming will do, but make sure to push yourself and go for at least a half hour but aiming for an 60-90 minutes as that amount of time triggers weight loss
Day 3: Yoga, or even better, hot yoga
Day 4: Weight Training
Day 5: Cardio, I would suggest this time to try to do something fun like play soccer or basketball, but the previous suggestions still work
Day 6: Yoga again, it's actually surprising how much you can enjoy yoga and it is so good for you (this is also coming from a guy)
The truth about weight training is that the more muscle you put on, the higher rate of metabolism you have. For each pound of muscle you gain you burn an extra 30 calories a day. Also don't worry about looking too muscly, girls are not made to look all muscly and most have to take steroids to look like that.
Cardio helps keep your heart healthy and have an affect on your weight if you do enough of it.
Yoga is great for your body and helps to strengthen it while burning calories.
Now as for diet, the number one rule is DO NOT SKIP MEALS!! skipping meals causes your stomach to shrink faster and send a chemical to your brain that makes you crave high calorie foods.
Try to eat ingest more protein as it keeps you feeling full longer.
Avoid processed sugars and grains as our bodys were not actually designed to digest these.
At all costs avoid MSG, this is a chemical most often in potato chips to preserve them, but it is also made in labs to make rats fat for experiments.
And eat cheese and yogurts as they stick to fats in your intestines and get rid of them.
Also do not get discouraged at first when you do not see results. This will most likely happen because the first fats to go are visceral fats (look it up) which surround your organs. This is actually the most important type of fat to lose and the first to go when you start to work out and eat healthy.
