Question: Im over weight and my doctor told me to go on a diet where u eat less carbs so i decided to go on the atkins diet.. Theres on think i dont understand and i tried looking it up and still dont get it. It says u need to eat about 12 net carbs a day so does that mean i should a eat a bananan becuz it had carbs? I just dont get what a 'Net carb' Is can someone please explain? And also im gonna go shopping and buy ground meat and cheese to make hamburgers ( no bun) im also gonna by string cheese and jlo. any other types of snack i can eat with no carbs ? i know bacon also has no carbs i might buy that too

Sam save your self some money and don't bother with the atkins diet. I went on a low carb diet 12 months ago and have lost over 130lbs. I went on a Paleo diet lifestyle change. basically you stop eating grains, rice, bread, no sugar, corn, pasta and eat lots of vegetables with protein like fish, meat, and chicken. The key is to eat a lot of veggies they help you digest food. The first few days will be tough because your body will crave bad carbs but once you get over that hump you will start shedding the weight off. I also recommend not to eat more than two servings of fruit a day because they have a high sugar content, i try to eat fruits all before 2:00pm daily. You can google caveman diet or paleo diets for more info, you can also google paleo recipes or find lots of good ones on pintrest. if you have other questions you can contact me through yahoo answers. I've been low carb dieting since last May and have had great results! When I started out, I kept to 20 grams of carbs or less per day. I increased my carb intake about a month after I started to 30 grams of carbs per day. Here are some low carb snacks that I enjoy: Hard boiled eggs, string cheese, salami with cream cheese and green onions, salami with swiss cheese and stone ground mustard, slim jims, celery with cream cheese, cucumber wheels with ranch dressing, low carb bars from Atkins. Watch your veggies! There are lots of carbs in root veggies i.e. beets, parsnips, carrots. Fruits are out. You need to get past the induction and ongoing weight loss phase before introducing fruits in your diet. There are lots of books that help guide you through the carb counts on foods. Some easy meals...this is where most people struggle. I can get smoked pork chops that have 0 carbs. I had that last night with some asparagus and butter and a nice salad. Fish, chicken, beef, pork, etc are for the most part low carb friendly. My mom made me this side dish one night and it was amazing: 5 strips bacon 1/2 head cabbage, chopped handful of spinach some onion apple cider vinegar 1 pkg of Splenda Fry the bacon crisp and remove. Saute the onion in the bacon drippings. Once soft, add the cabbage and stir to coat. Let the cabbage get soft and add the spinach with 3/4 C water. Put on a lid and let the spinach wilt down. Add the pkg of Splenda and vinegar to taste. Really, it's all about figuring out how to adjust what you love to low carb. One thing I love is homemade egg nog. My dad would make it for me as a little girl. Breyer's makes a pretty decent low carb vanilla ice cream. Use that, a whole egg, a teaspoon of vanilla, 1 pkg of Splenda, some 1/2 n 1/2 to thin, and some nice freshly grated nutmeg. Blend in a blender and voila! Egg nog milkshake! Watch lunch meats, hotdogs, any processed meats. These usually have a higher carb count that regular unprocessed meats. Good luck and let me know if you need more ideas!

think ahead to how youll eat and exercise on the weekends its easy to get too relaxed on saturdays and sundays but healthy living is a 7 day a week endeavor

NOWHERE in the Atkins diet does it tell you to eat 12g carbs a day, and if you Actually had the book and the rules you would know you can't eat fruit until later in the diet. If you want to do Atkins, stop making up your own rules, buy the book and follow it. You can also only eat very limited amount of dairy. If you make up the rules as your doing it will most likely end with you GAINING weight! BUY THE BOOK!

Cheese is NOT healthy... and gound meat ( I AM guessing beef) is also not the best! shrimp fish chicken steamed veggies nuts fruits like watermelon apples That's healthy stuff.

I think a full body cleanse is the best way to start. Your body needs to be cleaned out first, and from that point on you will only put good things in it. Exercise should be next on your list along with eating properly, and you should find a good diet plan that fits your need and lifestyle something that you can put up with. I personally just lost a huge amount of weight without dieting but i just ate more veggies and cut back on my meats and i also stopped eating anything that had high amounts of fat. I also invested in a treadmill and used it daily for about 2 months. I dropped 40 pounds in two months without punishing myself just cutting back eating good proportions of food and lots and lots of veggies.
