Question: im an 18 year old man, 5'10 but only 115 lbs... i have a very fast metabolism and eat a lot but still i dont gain weight... i want to go to gym but first, i want to be a little bulkier w/ the foods that i eat so that i can have a bigger frame of body when i go to gym.. please help me with your answers... it will gain me more confidence when i face people if you can help me.. thanks...

You are going to want to eat 3500 or more calories daily. Calorie count and see how well you are doing. Eat a lot of carbs and plenty of protein for the muscles. Go out and buy a protein powder mix to have after the workouts. Go to the gym and workout four days a week. Lift for a different body part each day. You are going to want to aim for 3-4 sets of 6-8 reps for each exercise to gain mass. Here is an example workout plan: Monday: Bicep and triceps exercsies, including dumbbell curl, standing dumbbell curl, hammer curl, french press, close-grip bench press, and some pushups on the side. Tuesday: Back and leg workout; Dead lift, bent-over row, one arm dumbbell row, rear deltoid fly, squats, leg curl, and leg extension. Wednesday: Shoulder workout: Upright row, military press, dumbbell side lateral, shrug. Friday: Chest: Dumbbell fly, bench press and dips on a bar, with some pushups on the side. If you want to put on weight, you should work out, to insure that you put on muscle and not fat. Healthy weight gain, just like healthy weight loss, takes time and requires a conscious effort to apply good habits. Recommended Ways to Gain Weight Have meals with the right balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and the right kinds of fat (such as unsaturated and monounsaturated fats, olive oil, canola oil, pistachios, almonds and walnuts). Heinemann suggests the following ratio: 60%-70% carbohydrates, 10%-15% protein, and a small amount of fat. Eat foods higher in calories, vitamins, and minerals, as opposed to higher in fat or sugar. Pack more nutritious calories in each serving. For example, you may add grated cooked eggs to mashed potatoes, ground chicken to soups and gravies, cheese in casseroles, eggs, and soups, and nonfat dried milk in soups, shakes, milk, and mashed potatoes. If you get too full too fast, try having more high-calorie foods or slices of foods as opposed to consuming the whole thing (raisins versus grapes, granola and Grape Nuts versus corn flakes, mango slices versus the whole mango). Limit drinking beverages to a half-hour before and after a meal. Drink mixed juices (apple/berry, peach/orange/banana as opposed to one juice beverages) for a higher calorie intake. With moderation, you may add in good fat sources to meals such as nuts, avocado, olives, and fatty fish (salmon and mackerel). Snack in between meals. Nuts, dried fruits, and yogurt are good options, but it's also important to find nutritious foods that you will enjoy. Have a nutritious snack before bedtime, such as a peanut butter sandwich.

18 is not the end of growth for young men, you are probably still growing. Until you stop growing, and your frame stops getting bigger, you can expect to have a hollow leg - and not show much for it, especially if you are very active. I am assuming you eat well, get at least 4oz of decent quality protien a day (like 2 eggs, or 4oz on meat, or 12oz of dairy foods), and the nutrients you need to finish off your growth and development. Some few people discover that they are diabetic about your age, and they become overly thin because they are peeing out sugar all day and night. If you have any diabetics in your family, or if you are a sedentary candy bar and soda junkie, you might want to get that checked out, but it is unlikely. There is a terrible lack of help out there for people trying to *gain* weight... Some of the best ideas come from what people do that ruin their weight loss diets! Either direction, if you want to change the weight you tend to hold, you don't just change what you eat, you change your eating habits. What you drink counts. It satisfies hunger, so if more weight is what you want, *drink it*. Whole milk and calcium fortified orange juice are high calorie and high nutrition winners. Add things like ovaltine to your milk - more calories, and fairly cheap. Or protein powder - more expensive but even more calories. Butter everything. If it isn't good with butter, put mayonaise on it. How about a piece of cheese on that? Ice cream is very fattening, and not completely worthless as a healthy food. Carry high calorie snacks, like cheese sticks, or dinner left overs. Eat whenever you are standing still. Bread is a wonderful thing, so are potatoes (both with butter, of course). Eat some serious starch before you go to bed, like a couple bananas, or a baked potato with all the goop you can think of, or instant mashed potatoes with some cheese soup stirred in... or a couple slabs of bread and butter. I have been extremely thin all of my life, and have often gone on weight gain efforts. These things do work :)

Well firstly, you dont have a fast metabolism - you probably dont eat as much as most people - do you pick at your food? Or you are more hyper than them - do you fidget, are you always on the go? Wait til u hit 30...believe me you will have no problem gaining weight..i used to be called Skeletor..not now.... But to bulk out - go to the gym and drink protein shakes 1hr before and 1hr after You wont change your basic shape, but look at boxers like Lennox Lewis - tall, slight built, skinny up til early 20s - big fat lump now.......

protein shakes...dont listen to whoever says fast food because it makes you fat in your waist area and keep your other parts skinny...ur still 18 its hard to gain the weight you want so fast cause like you said your metabolism is fast this will slow down when youre 20-22 ...but for now be confident about how you look and go to the gym to shape your muscles with out waiting till you get big...working out makes you confident it self even if you dont get big...just the fact that you go and sweat yourself...n remember a nice body needs hard work out and good diet..

you're only 18 don't worry i was exactly the same at your age. you'll gain weight don't worry. But if you want to really gain weight and fight it for the rest of your life..go on a high protein diet for about 3 months. You actually lose weight at first then once you go back to eating carbs you'll balloon up like a puffer fish and be on the rollercoaster the rest of your life

You never mentioned how tall you were? Anyways, there really isn't much you can do honestly, the simple answer is, eat more, other then that, as far as I know, there is no way you can slow your metabolism . It would also be nice to have an estimate on how much calories you eat per day, I know/met many girls who are really skinny only because they eat less then 1200 calories per day. You should be aiming for 2000+ calories per day to gain weight, foods like peanuts/tree nuts and oils ( Olive oil / coconut oil ) are very high in fat, ( Even though it's healthy fats, fat is still fat ) , Foods high in carbs MIGHT also help gain weight, Brown rice/ rice cakes / whole grains ( Wheat, oats, etc ) or sugar if you don't mind eating unhealthy. Other then that, I cant really help you much, Best of luck, and good luck with the doctor. Also, I before I got into fitness, I use to smoke weed a lot to, It definitely did not increase my metabolism...if anything made me eat more to gain weight.
