Question: My husband has Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). We never know what is going to trigger an episode. By epsode I mean abdominal cramps, and some heinous diarrhea. It hits within moments of eating. If he eats something one night and has no episode, we never know if two weeks later eating the exact same thing will send his system into fits of IBS. So there are no foods that we know to avoid. Heck, eating some nutter-butter crackers set him off tonight! Some evenings we can't even leave the house because a toilet has to be nearby. It seems to be a mystery condition. His General Practitioner gave him some medicine to 'stop colon spasms', thinking that would help, but it has done nothing beneficial at all. I'm thinking we need to take him to a Gastrointerologist. But from what I've heard, there is just no cure. Does anyone else out there have this, or lives with someone who has it. If so, what on earth can be done? It is miserable.

The only advice I can offer is for him to take Immodium or Maalox. It helps with the diarrhea but not the stomach cramps, and can cause constipation if taken for a prolonged period of time. According to WebMD, anti-depressants may help with the stomach cramps. http://www.webmd.com/content/article/86/... is the URL for more information from WebMD.. it might give you some ideas for things he hasn't tried yet. They recommend you do NOT take Zelnorm if you have IBS with diarrhea as Zelnorm is geared towards IBS with constipation and can aggrivate diarrhea symptoms, making it a lot worse instead of better. .

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose. eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours) 5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day 8 glasses of water have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily. ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Starving yourself is BAD!!!!!!!! if you really want to lose weight you should exercise for more than an hour to burn lots of calories. ok, i've been big for quite some time, and now i've been losing weight by playing DDR for three hours sunday-monday, two hours on friday and saturday all in workout mode and i play by the timing of the game, which makes it seem like i've played for 3 1/2 or 4 hours. i lost 11 pounds in two weeks for doing this, on my third week i maintained my weight because i couldn't control my hunger well and now that i'm in my fourth week and i lost 3 extra pounds in two days because I still play....does that sound effective enough? if you don't believe me try it yourself. buy PS2 and DDR if you don't have one and learn how to play with it. and once you have the hang of it, play as long as you can. Also, make sure you drink alot of water, LOTS OF IT, and don't eat fast/junk food, just fruits and veggies, wheat bread only, and anything healthy with proteins on it (this means you can eat peanuts, but as long as they don't have sugar or salt). Well, if you find another way to lose weight with other exercises, good luck!

Zelnorm has helped some people. This disease is difficult to control. Even a cold environment can trigger an attack. Ask for a consult for a gastroenterologist. They may have more information on the latest research. I hope he can get better control over his attacks. Good luck and don't give up.

I put a halt to pretty much the same problem with two patented supplements. One is a fantastic multi-vitamin and the other is a pro/pre biotic combo. As long as I remember to take them I have no problems what so ever.
