5 protein shakes a day for weight loss?
Topic: 5 protein shakes a day for weight loss?
June 26, 2019 / By Stanford Question:
my little sister is very overweight and has been all her life. she is 5'3 and weights 230ish
lately her weight has been bothering her to the point where she drinks 146oz of water and 5 meal replacement protein shakes which all together is 700 calories and she walks for 30mins and does cardio for 30min. i have kind of hinted to her that she needs atleast 2,000 but she doenst listen. i dont really want to say much because it can be kind of awkward having your big brother talking to you about weight especially if you're a teenage girl.my parents are no help, they rather talk about how fat she is w/o actually helping her
i need some kind of way to help her w/o sounding rude. im not quite sure what to do
Please no negative comments!!

Recommend soups to her. You can also look up articles online and print out healthy recipes that she might be interested in and just hand her the booklet or pages and tell her hey look I found this; read through it and see if you can add this to your meals. Let her know that starving herself will only get her to gain more weight and it will slow down her metabolism. Also get her a multi-vitamin for women so she stays healthy. Talk to your parents about - basically if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. I see so many unfortunate stories on the news everyday with teens committing suicide or being depressed over their body image its so sad. So try to cheer her up and motivate her. Hope I helped! Good luck! you're a good brother!

To be honest, there's not too much difference in both of the products. I think the weight gainer has like an extra protein or nutrient in it. Take whichever one you want, just make sure that you work out and that you consume more calories than you burn.
I think meal replacement shakes are a great idea and I have used them in the past. I used them back in the day... and when I stuck to the plan 100%, I lost 17 pounds in 3 weeks--replacing 2 meals a day, then it slacked off to about 2 pounds a week. I would not replace all 3 meals though, I think your sister needs to eat real food, healthy food, once a day. If she has to eat between shakes, make it raw veggies and yogurt dip, nearly zero calorie items.

Just be careful that the FDA doesn't strip you of your accomplishments, due to being under the influence of performance enhancing supplements. It might not be considered actual weight loss, if you cheat with protein shakes(heavy sarcasm)

You should never rely on protein shakes for the majority of your protein intake. It is called a supplement for a reason. You should get a majority of protein and calories from food. In order to gain weight, just like losing weight it is calories in vs calories out. If you take in more calories than you burn, you gain weight.
In order to grow muscles, you must lift weights. They are not going to grow unless you lift.
-Get at least 1 gram of protein per pound
-Do not rely on protein shakes
-Food is your best source
-Eat more calories than you take in
