If you gain muscle, you will burn fat. Just having muscle makes your body burn more calories in a day. You need to combine a workout of strength training and cardio to lose weight. You should walk/run 3 times a week and strength train 3 times a week, and rest 1 day. Do it something like this this:
You should alternate days like that, and you need a day of rest or your body will get too tired and you could hurt yourself or just not get a good work out. You don't have to lift heavy weights to strength train, just do push ups or lift weights that are heavy enough to challenge you. For me, 3lb weights work best. I'm a girl. Since you're a guy, I'd lift 5-10lb weights or just do pushups. And when you walk/run, you need to do it at least 1 hour a day.
Also remember that if you're gaining muscle, you're going to put on muscle weight but lose fat weight, so try to focus more on how your body looks than what your physical weight is.
