Question: Does the diet work? And if so how much did you lose during the Phase 1? And is this a lifestyle? Are the Atkins snacks and bars good for you? I need clarification on this diet before I begin!!!

Yes - been doing it for many years now. I lost probably about 30 lbs. It's just so great to get off the sugar. But for a long time what you try to do is keep eating in the same way you were eating before - that's with stuff like the snack bars and stuff like that. Really... the trick is to leave that stuff behind. Atkins can be pretty cheap. Look for good, cheap cuts of meat at the store - and make a big soup in a slow cooker. Learn to have a little hamburger... and that's all. Have a nice green salad once a day. Actually you need very little food to survive - and since Atkins food is real stuff, it actually feeds you. You feel fairly satisfied. It cuts down on cravings quite a lot. Get a used copy of "New Diet Revolution" off of Amazon Books - this is stuff that you really have to learn while you're younger - and practice it all your life. Nothing is perfect - so you're going to fall off the diet from time to time. But it will show you what actual "food" is.... and what junk food is. The funny part is how terrified people are of Atkins.... they think it's going to kill you instantly. It's not. It's what you were meant to eat to begin with. But people want to keep feeding you the garbage - and they call it a "balanced diet".

Carbs are energy for life. The Atkins diet is a fad that will fade away and return in a few years, as so many others have done. Your best bet is to eat balanced meals. Eat only the caloric intake that you burn in a day. If you want to eat more, you will have to burn more. There are many easy ways to enhance your metabolism to burn more calories without special effort. Avoid soda pop and any caloric drink (your body stores liquid calories quickly). Don't stuff yourself. Eat smaller portions more often. Get your exercise in the mornings. Don't eat after 7:00 pm.

I have been doing Atkins for 3 years. It is not a fad diet. If this is a fad it's been around for 25 years with great success. It you cheat and your still trying to lose just go on induction which means you limit your carbs to 25g for a couple of days. You do not have to do the whole two weeks unless you didn't do this diet right to start with. You never should do low carb or any diet without knowing how to do something. Dr. Atkins diet makes so much sense if you read the book. But thinking this diet is just meat and eggs is not true and thinking this diet has no carbs is also another untruth. Everything including eggs has carbs. The only food that doesn't is meat. So therefore how can Atkins be NO carbs. It is however, low carbs and you eat the carbs that affect the blood the least. For example: A white potato or white bread will spike your blood sugar making your pancreas make insulin the rise and fall of the sugar in the body helps with fat production. Limiting your carbs actually begins to burn the fat (not muscle) However, this is not a way of eating that one can go on and off of. It has to be a lifestyle change and unless you wish to dedicate yourself to eating this way find another way to eat.

Yes, I have and it worked. If you do it properly. Read the book first before doing it. It cost about $7.99. Okay, warning: Once you become successful on the diet, ease back into normal eating and a good exercise program. The book would show you how to (Phase 4). Cause if you gain all your weight back, the Atkins Diet does not work the second time. It's something me and lot of people found out the hard way. I think your body gets use to the diet.

It's not a healthy diet at all but you do lose weight on it (as with nearly any diet)...the problem with Atkins is the very high % of people that go on it re-gain once they get off the diet...I've used it and it's not an eating program I would recommend to anyone...there's no point in going on a diet if you cannot maintain it and make it your lifestyle (and since your body NEEDS complex carbs, this isn't one anyone should be on for long)... I highly suggest you look up 'clean eating' and make that your new eating regime...it's healthy, it's great for fat loss, and you can stay on it the rest of your life without depriving your body of anything it needs... Something you should read before you try Atkins (if you end up doing that) is the source link below...at least arm yourself with information (as I did) so you'll know what you are getting into...I read up on the pros and cons and did it anyway...lost 35 lbs, but gained 20 of it back in the next year...I'd have been better off just making a healthy, permanent diet change and not using an unhealthy fad that could possibly have had negative side effects...

You need to read the book, he tells you how to modify it to suit your needs. BTW, if you are not eating ANY carbs you are NOT doing Atkins. You should be eating your veggies right from the start. This is why you need to read the book, so that you actually know what Atkins is and how it is done.
