Breast Reduction at a young age?

Breast Reduction at a young age? Topic: Breast Reduction at a young age?

Question: Im 14 and ever since I was younger Ive had extremely large breasts. Currently, I have Fibrocystic Breast Disease and very heavy, dense breasts. My doctor has already said that I need a reduction at 18 or younger. He said with my small body type and my height(5'8) I would have serious back issues. I already have horrible pain in my neck and back. Right now I wear a 32(Im actually a 30 or 28) G. Yes, a G. They grow at a fast rate too. Do you think I should go ahead and do it now or wait till Im 16?

Girls as young as 14 can get breast reductions. PS's usually want to wait because you are not done growing yet, however a G cup at age 14, you should have no problems getting covered for surgery. Doing it at age 14 or 16 is really up to YOU. YOU are the one with the back pain. Please check out this site as well. http://www.breasthealthonline.org

Most plastic surgeons like to wait until you are 18 HOWEVER my sister had hers done at 16. If you are having back and/or neck pain surgeons will take that into consideration. You can go down to a D comfortably my sis and I both did. We are both a C-D cup (depending on the bra) and have had no further problems since.

Yes, you can have them reduced to whatever size you like. The surgeon may make a suggestion, but it is up to you. Just make sure that you know the implcations and the risks of this surgery. There is a fairly significant recovery time. Assuming that you are a student I would suggest you do it over a long holiday break or wait until summer time (however you will not be able to swim for awhile.) Also, if your parents have decent health insurance this would be a good time in your life to have this surgery done so most or all of the costs will be covered. As long as you have some type of history of pain or other ailments being caused by your large chest the insurance should pay.

Exactly how young are you making reference to...? Unless it is a medical emergency, no doctor in his right mind would do breast reduction on a girl if her body has not fully developed. For normal circumstances, the body of both sexes is consided as fully developed at age 25... Introducing scar tissue internally for either sex is a risk for problems to follow later, especially of breasts which undergo physical change even after being fully deevloped... I guess there are doctors that will do anything for a dollar but I would not recommend it for anyone until age 25 or older... I feel the same about breast enhancement also... Don't think twice...thing many times over and then say no... PS...: I just read skippers words and if removing two pounds it was obvious all thoughts were considering this an emergency as she still had growing years ahead. I don't blame her a bit...would do it myself if that was the situation....!

You should do it because it will just add to your suffering. I mean if you think you can deal with it for another 2 yrs that's your choice. I would have strapped them down or something. It must be very uncomfortable for you. Prayer about it and talk with your parents first before you make your decison.

you have the same problem as my friend. She was told if she wants to breast fee this may cause a problem getting it done so young. She was told to wait. For Teens Thinking of Getting a Breast Reduction Teens with very large, pendulous breasts may experience a variety of medical problems caused by the excessive weight-from back and neck pain and skin irritation to skeletal deformities and breathing problems. Bra straps may leave indentations in their shoulders. And unusually large breasts can make a woman-or a teenage girl-feel extremely self-conscious. It is important to note that doctors may choose not to allow the breast reduction because of the fact that most teen breasts are still developing. It is best to wait until the breasts have grown to their full size before operating. Teen breast reduction, technically known as reduction Mammaplasty, is designed for such women. The procedure removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. The goal is to give the woman smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body. If you're considering a teen breast reduction, this will give you a basic understanding of the procedure- when it can help, how it's performed, and what results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances. Please be sure to ask your doctor if there is anything about the procedure you don't understand. THE BEST TEEN CANDIDATES FOR BREAST REDUCTION Breast reduction is usually performed for physical relief rather than simply cosmetic improvement. Most women who have the surgery are troubled by very large, sagging breasts that restrict their activities and cause them physical discomfort. In most cases, breast reduction isn't performed until a woman's breasts are fully developed; however, it can be done earlier if large breasts are causing serious physical discomfort. The best candidates are those who are mature enough to fully understand the procedure and have realistic expectations about the results. Breast reduction is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed.
