Topic: Atkins diet?
May 22, 2019 / By Annabeth Question:
I'm only doing the induction phase of the diet to get a jump start on losing some weight. Then I am just going to try & eat healthier & excercise more. The problem is I know it is only 10 or so days but I'm only on day 3 and already sooo tired of eggs, cheese, and meats. Ugh, any other recipe ideas??
I know I am able to eat veggies. just forgot to mention that.

fish is something you didnt mention..tuna, salmon, pilchards are great for this diet. nuts such as macadamia, pine, walnuts, hazelnuts - all great snacks and full of nutrients.
many vegetables...broccoli, peppers, cabbage, mushrooms and other green veg are acceptable. there is so much you can eat on this diet.
atkins also has a website and a very interesting dvd which is so informative ...well worth a look.
i cook everythin in olive oil as its a natural fat. my cholesterol has lowered since eating a low carb diet and i feel more energetic and healthy. i wouldnt go back to a low fat diet...where i am ALWAYS hungry - and where the foods have hidden sugars.
try and persevere with the induction...first few days are tough whilst your body is changing from burning carbohydrates to burning the fat as your prime energy source..you'll be surprised when you get on the scales after two weeks...just how well you have done!
when i need a chocolate fix...i have diabetic stuff - that way it doesnt upset my blood sugar causing cravings...but thats after the induction... good luck and i hope you reach your goal!

Carbs are energy for life. The Atkins diet is a fad that will fade away and return in a few years, as so many others have done. Your best bet is to eat balanced meals. Eat only the caloric intake that you burn in a day. If you want to eat more, you will have to burn more. There are many easy ways to enhance your metabolism to burn more calories without special effort. Avoid soda pop and any caloric drink (your body stores liquid calories quickly). Don't stuff yourself. Eat smaller portions more often. Get your exercise in the mornings. Don't eat after 7:00 pm.
I thought it was grilled meats and veggies ?
Nuke a pound bag of the peas or green beans and put on curry / Marsala sauce ( its low carb)
And remember , you can do grilled pork or chicken or fish or beef for variety . . . and cycle thru corn , carrots , peas and green beans . . .
I feed the parents that and they aren't even doing atkins. Plus , their blood sugar readings are always better when I cook !

First, do you have the book? If not get it and read it. All of it.
There are tons of sites out there with recipes for low carb. Just do a search for "low carb recipes" and you will see!
If you are serious about this the following is a great website that you can get great support and lots of ideas on what to eat!!

automate your eating by planning your meals ahead of time that way you re less likely to make an unhealthy last minute food choice

If you're not planning on staying on the diet for the rest of your life, you should probably quit now.
The Atkin's diet primary component is the exclusion of carbohydrates. The body uses carbs first in order to burn fuel. When there are not enough carbs, then the body will turn to fats and/or sugars and lastly muscle for fuel. This leads to a fast loss of body fat because the body essentially goes into "starvation mode" by using its fat reserve.
The body will remain in "starvation mode" for as long as there are no carbohydrates.
The downside is that the second carbohydrates are introduced the body will horde and increase the reserve for future starvation periods. (Same concept as how polar bears will eat in excess in the springtime and gain a lot of weight and then "sleep it off" in hibernation).
Therefore, you will end up gaining twice the weight you lost while you weren't consuming carbohydrates. If you constantly go on and off the Atkin's diet then you could mess up your chemistry and not be able to properly burn fat in the future. However, even being on it for as little as week can end up modifying your basal metabolism.

You can get the meal bars and shakes to mix it up some-but unfortunately the induction phase is quite dull

You need to read the book, he tells you how to modify it to suit your needs.
BTW, if you are not eating ANY carbs you are NOT doing Atkins. You should be eating your veggies right from the start. This is why you need to read the book, so that you actually know what Atkins is and how it is done.
