I know pregnant women aren't supposed to but I don't know why. But I've never heard whether or not it's safe for kids to do.

Your question concerns safety, so if that's a concern and it should be...teach them to not play with the contents, do a thorough job of cleaning the box, and to wash their hands when done.
Toxoplasmosis: A single-celled parasite called Toxoplasma gondii causes a disease known as toxoplasmosis. While the parasite is found throughout the world, more than 60 million people in the United States may be infected with the Toxoplasma parasite. Of those who are infected, very few have symptoms because a healthy person's immune system usually keeps the parasite from causing illness. However, pregnant women and individuals who have compromised immune systems should be cautious; for them, a Toxoplasma infection could cause serious health problems.
Contracted by accidentally swallowing the parasite through contact with cat feces that contain Toxoplasma. This might happen by:
1) cleaning a cat's litter box when the cat has shed Toxoplasma in its feces
2) touching or ingesting anything that has come into contact with cat feces that contain Toxoplasma
3) accidentally ingesting contaminated soil (e.g., not washing hands after gardening or eating unwashed fruits or vegetables from a garden)

Originally Answered: is it safe for my kids to eat vegetarian products like veggie bacon?
My kids were raised as vegetarians. There were 3. 2 are now vegans. I would tell you to go ahead and serve your children the meat substitute products sparingly. Many of them have a lot of sodium and corn syrup solids. These are not healthy products for ANYONE. I am still writing letters to the manufacturers and begging them not to include these products. So far Gardenburger has done a pretty good job of not including filler products and extra flavor enhancers.
The bottom line for feeding kids a good veggie or vegan diet...include LOTS of vegetables, fruits, whole, unprocessed grains and legumes. The less processing goes on with your kids' food, the more nutrients your little ones will be getting. And make sure, if you include foods without vitamin B-12 added to add a supplemental childrens' vitamin to their diet. My kids ate a lot of soy products and lots of plain beans. This was in the 1980's and a lot has changed for the better in vegan/veggie food selections for kids.
Good luck! Your kids will thank you when they are in their early 20's and their bodies are thin and strong...all their friends' bodies will be obese and unhealthy!
in my opinion
its probably pretty safe as long as they don't eat it or anything. just make sure they are doing it properly

Well first of all, I assume that pregnant women aren't supposed to clean litter boxes because they may breathe in the dust, which (in turn) could harm the unborn baby. I mean I'm just guessing.
Anyway, I would think that it's safe for kids to clean the box, as long as they don't have any breathing problems (like asthma) and as long as they wear gloves and sanitize their hands afterward and maybe even wear masks so that they don't breathe in the dust. They MAY need to be above a certain age. Otherwise, I would say it's safe. You MAY want to consult your vet and your pediatrician, just to be sure.
Plus, the kids would be learning and participating in part of the RESPONSIBILITY of caring for the cat.

My Girlfriend is pregnant and the reason they aren't suppose to clean out a cat litter box is because cats eat raw meat sometimes and as a result have a bacteria in their poo that can be harmful to young child/baby in the womb as their immune system isn't as strong as an adults. This is also why pregnant woman can't eat uncooked meat or eggs. Also breathing in dust from actual kitty litter can be harmful

It's called Toxplasmosis.
If the kids wear Nitrile gloves and handle the kitty litter very safely, they should be fine.

I had a ferret (Fox) who passed away in Feb who had adrenal disease. He had surgery when he was 5 years old. For about 3 months he improved but didn't love live. We started him on monthly Lupron shot and a melatonin implant given every 3 months, this gave him his spunk back. He even started playing with the other ferrets again. He lived to be 8 years old. He also had liver cancer and we gave him "Milk Thistle" for that. Another amazing product, and the cheapest one!
As for duck soup, we feed Fox wet marshalls or wet Zupreem (you could use whatever your feeding him now), just like they do at the pet stores. Add hot water, hold the ferret while he eats, and he LOVED it.
You could also try Turkey baby food.
Or A/D cat food, sold at the vets office.
Heat both up before feeding.
