I just got a 2 month puppy from my dad's friend, and I don't know what to feed her. The closest store nearby my house that has puppy food is Wal-Mart.

Well, you should look for organic puppy food. :)
When the back says "corn, corn gluten, wheat, and byproduct" then you should not get that kind. A lot of people think they are giving their dog the best with Pedigree, but that is packed with corn, wheat, and byproducts.
Some companies lie on the bag, though saying it's "organic" when it's not.
Just look for organic puppy food, and read the back.

Dry foods that have the highest ratings.
And if you contact some of the companies that you can get near you before buying, quite a few will be willing to send a sample size and coupons :p
Good breeders give their new owners a diet sheet, and usually a small supply of the food the puppy has been used to having. Get back to your dad's friend and ask him what he's been feeding this puppy - if you switch him to something else, without doing it gradually, you will give him an upset tummy = diarrhoea. Never mind the closest store ..... go get what he's used to having. Switching homes is stressful enough, without switching food too.
Have fun with your new puppy.

Try to get to a pet store that sells high quality food. I don't know of any great puppy foods currently, because I am still battling the different brands with my dog. =[ However, an employee at the pet store will be able to point you in the right direction for good foods!

I use Purina One Puppy Chow, my puppy loves it, I would feed that to her until she is like a year old. That is what many vets has recommended me, even though I have used it with every puppy I have had. It is pretty cheap at Wal-Mart, where I live, it is a 32lb for 25-28 bucks. It keeps their weight balanced, and gives them all the nutrients they need. I hope that helps lol

Good God!!! If you can buy it at Walmart, it's CRAP!!! Spend more money and feed a good quality food. GO to the local pet store and get information from them. You also don't mention the breed so it's hard to give good advice/product names. DON'T feed ANYTHING that doesn't have "meat" (ie: chicken, lamb, fish, etc) as the primary ingredient!

Here is a site that will show you which dog foods are the best and the worst. I suggest that you get any one of the dog foods that are top rated.
Most of grocery store dog food formulas, like Purina, Pedigree, and etc contain "meat and bone meal" which has been known to contain dead dogs and cats that were euthanized in animal shelters. Their bodies are picked up and bought by the truck load by "rendering plants" , that also pick up road kill, dead live stock, and etc. They are shredded, and boiled. They skim off the fat on the top of the "soup" and collected it and sell it to pet food companies as "animal fat", the rest of the animals' remains are crushed up, dried and sold to dog and cat food companies as meat and bone meal.
You can read more about it here.
Here is an article where the owner of a rendering plant talks about it. He says that cremating the dead shelter animals would cause pollution, and that rendering them is good.
Here is further information on what you shouldn't see in the ingredients list in your puppy's food.
Top rated dog foods like Canidae contain good healthy ingredients.
