What would you do.there was a spider in my food!? Topic: What would you do.there was a spider in my food!?

Question: My wife and I were eating at Whole Foods Market and I ordered a grilled cheese. It came with chips and a bunch of grapes. As I was eating the sandwich and plucking some grapes off of the bunch, I noticed a small white thing, almost like a cobweb behind one of the grapes, close to the stem. Upon further inspection, I noticed that there was also a spider in this little web, along with its egg sac!..and the spider was alive! Needless to say I lost my appetite and brought it to the manager. He refunded my $6.30 for my meal and gave me a gift card for $18.70. ...Total gift card of $25.00. What would you do? Did the manager do enough or would you expect something more?

Whole Foods Market specializes in fresh organic foods. If that spider was still alive, that means the grapes had not been sprayed with chemicals (healthier for you). I would have just removed the offending grape (and spider with egg sac) and enjoyed the rest of the meal. It is my opinion that the manager did more than enough.

Because the ingredients in the unhealthy food are so cheap they're actually cheaper than the healthy stuff. In the past fruit & vegetables always used to be cheaper than animal products, but thanks to some modern inhumane intensive farming methods and new methods of carcass processing (for example "mechanically recovered/separated meat" etc) its very cheap to get a bit of animal on your plate these days. What part of that animal though is another question (its not even technically meat most of the time), but when its all processed into a nice nondescript paste which is then cooked up in a shape with some flavourings & additives etc people don't seem to really care! But yeah. I know farming, i know food factory work. I've lived/worked in both and i've done a lot of research on these matters too, and long story short my advice is: Save your pennies up for the better quality healthier food and avoid such processed foods (chicken nuggets, cheap sausage meat, burgers etc) like the plague! You'll be doing your health a big favour- its not just gross & fattening a lot of what they put in junk/fast food, there are major concerns over the long term health implications over a lot of the other things they add to food.

Because the 99 cent stuff you're talking about is fodder. The quality that goes into it is worth 99 cents. The more healthy options on the other hand have at least a semblance of decent quality, hence the higher price.

I add a big, juicy fly to the order for "spidey". It's pretty common for bugs to be shipped in with fruit, this guy just got past the cleaning. I think the manager did enough.

You are correct - an all dry diet is now linked to such feline disorders as diabetes, obesity, constipation, urinary tract disorders, and kidney disease. Nature created cats to eat meat, not dry carbohydrate filled kibbles. And dry food does not clean the teeth any more than eating hard pretzels cleans ours. Look at your cat's teeth - they are designed for ripping meat off the bone and have no flat surfaces for chewing. She needs at least one canned meal a day - preferably more with dry for snacking only.
