Sure can! I was taking the pills, and they sure weren't helping. So I started using Miralax and it helped within a day of using it. If the stool softeners aren't helping, try a powder...

Hi Brad, this is what the doctor recommends: 2 TB of Mineral Oil 2TB of Milk of Magnesia Mix into 6 oz of Prune Juice This works like a charm.

They sent me home with a prescription for stool softeners, so yeah. If it hurts, then definitely take some! Stool softeners don't get absorbed into your body. They osmotically draw water into the colon. Anyways, it won't get into your breastmilk!

You can definitely keep taking them, my midwife wrote me a prescription, but also said that I could take over the counter. I'm breast feeding, (she knew this. & told me that's its safe.) Not to meantion, they are very helpful for a while until you're healed down there.

Yes, it is perfectly okay. I had this problem too, and its completely normal, although, if you dont get relief soon, I'd contact your doctor.

try introducing more foods like applesauce, grape juice and things like that. it could help. foods like most dairy, cheese and such can make it worse if given too much.
