learn how to look up how many calories are , in say, a large red apple, or how many calories in 5 Salad crackers...or 6 oz. chicken breast or a slice of bread. (you can do this on the internet,,just type in "calories in _____" and search it and you will see they have most everything listed. Buy an "electronic food scale" (in your local dep. store or on Amazon for $ 20.. It will help you easily measure the weight and amount of the food you eat..and you can type in (for example) 5 oz. of Green Beans = ?? . Keep a food journal and find out how many calories you burn each day just doing nothing (2400 on average for most average sized males and around 1750- 2000? for most average sized females? I think,,,but it does depend)...if you do exercise or some physical activity ..you will be hungrier after as your body burns more calories each hour or even 15 minutes you do that physical activity. The amount of calories most people burn doing different physical activities are also listed. Type in "how many calories burn running" on your internet search engine. or "how many calories burn walking?" "how many calories burn mowing lawn? "how many calories burn swimming?" how many calories burn riding a bicycle?" " how many calories burn doing yard work?" they have sites that tell you how many calories you burn each hour doing such activities..so you can know that you have burnt more calories so can eat a little more that day. You want to create a calorie deficit each day / each week burning about 3500- 5000 calories to lose 2 lbs at least each week. okay, to get into shape , speed up your metabolism, rid yourself of excess fat and lose weight ,,,,,do as follows: Stop drinking alcohol excessively & smoking (if you do this regularly) eat fruits & vegetables all you can (buy a slow cooker /food steamer & rice/pasta cooker to make it very easy to prepare vegetarian meals )...(vegetables might not seem "tasty", like junk foods,, but can be as you aquire your taste to them..and are loaded with energy and nutrients & have far less calories than junk foods)...avoid all junk food, cokes, sweets, etc...and drink mainly water (green tea , juice & milk being the other options you drink). If you eat meat ,,use only steamed, baking or grilled methods for preparing fish or chicken. also, do an hour of walking each day at least. or some type of excercise. * you should lose from 5-10 lbs per month

You can't lose 8 lbs in 17 days by eating healthy UNLESS you are obese...obese people lose weight faster in the beginning because they have more to lose. If you are overweight, normal weight or underweight the only way to lose 8 lbs in 17 days is to fast....which sounds like it would not be healthy in your case. Good luck, Dal
