Question: So my mother who I look after wants to go on a low carb high protein diet to lose a few pounds. We are not really having a problem, meats, cheeses, vegetables....just get rid of a few things, add a few more of another. But the problem is that both of us...me more than her....are missing treats, something sweet. I was trying to find some sort of treat for us, a desert, a candy, anything...that would fit into our diet. So anyone know of something that is low or no carbs, not too high in calories that we could add into the diet so we don't feel so deprived?

100 calorie snack treats. They come in all types of cookies, brownies, and snack cakes. Not sure if this is low in carb, but definitely low in calories. Counting calories is a lot more effective than counting carbs because carbs are essential to weight loss. Just make sure to watch your sugar intake.

I'm on the south beach diet. Low carb breakfast, I have 2 eggs scrambled and canadian bacon or turkey bacon for breakfast.

I'm more curious as to why your doctor would suggest a low carb diet. That is a way to loose weight temporarily but honestly yuor body needs carbs. It sounds like you are doing what is most important. Eat healthy, exercise and reduce any really fatty foods that you used to eat. But you can still treat yourself once in a while. Don't do any type of diet that is going to let you go hungry. Just eat smarter. Yogurt, cottage cheese, fruits, veggies, chicken, fish and stick with dringing lots of water. Keep it up and you will look and feel a lot better. Carbs are not so bad as long as you are not eating an entire loaf of bread with your salad.

Low carb diets are fad diets. Fad diets are not good for long term weight loss. Carbs are very important for weight loss. Anyone that tells you any different is clueless. The reason why you're craving sweets is because your blood sugar is lower than it used to be because you're not eating carbs. Low blood sguar= cravings for sweets. You can either switch to a healthier diet that will stabilize your blood sugar or you can deal with the cravings for another 6 months while your body adjusts. Your choice.

make sure you check food labels and avoid anything with more than 4 grams of sugar especially high fructose corn syrup per serving
