Should the military drop the body fat requirement to a lower percentage? Topic: Should the military drop the body fat requirement to a lower percentage?

Question: Now just hear me out on this. Say they start drafting people and half of them dont meet the body fat requirements, yet they are good capable soldiers. I find it hard on citizens who have had weight problems all their life, and try for a whole year to lose it and still cant make it because of their metabolism. It's very unfair and kind of annoying to say the least. So should they drop the body fat requirements to a lower percentage?

Honestly, no. High body fat percentages can keep a person from being the best soldier they can be. Especially if they've tried to lose it and can't. They're fighting to protect the country, and in a war zone, you need to be as fast as possible. 50 extra pounds of fat will surely slow you down.

The most effective way to burn fat is to eat less and exercise more often, the problems surface when we really aim to put that into practice! There are loads of temptations in the real world aren't there?! The sole diet which clearly delivered for me is wu-yi tea, it can be checked out in the resource box underneath, they have a few free trials left, it was featured in Reader's Digest and USA Today. I worked off 30 pounds, it clearly does produce results!

A good sensible diet is the only way to ensure long term weight loss. You could kick start your weight loss to give yourself some encouragement by looking at http://klegg.net/ This is really a short term quick fix though, long term you really need to think about limiting your calorie intake and doing more excercise. Good luck.

You do realise that 20% an ideal percentage for a woman to be, it's very fit and lean. That's what I'm aiming to be. However, perhaps you want more muscle definition in which case you need to start doing strength training 3 times a week and eating more protein, around 110g per day. At the moment you have 48.5kg of lean mass and 12kg of fat. So you don't have a lot of body fat and you have a decent amount of lean mass. I guess it's just a case of increasing the lean mass by 1-2kg and reducing the body fat by 1-2kg. For example if you got the lean mass up to 50kg and the body fat down to 11kg, you would still weigh about the same, but would have reduced your body fat percentage to 18%. I wouldn't go any lower than 15% body fat or you can face various health problems.

No. Sorry but the team is only as strong as their weakest soldier. How would you feel if you were in a fire fight and had to move but couldn't leave the fat guy is behind. Putting youself and your team in danger. Nice to have a heart to serve but sometimes it's better to have them stay home and pay their taxes. I have been in the military for a few years now and know how soldiers are. Sure they try real hard at morning pt but do they really work out on their own and eat healthy like they say. They eat healthy for one meal when people are around but munch on junk and beer when nobody isn't. I also don't believe in metabolism problems. Best excuse, tyroid problem and it is impossible. I'm pretty sure some starving africans have tyroid problems too but look at them. Not being fat is possible for anybody. Its not far and will me harder.

I understand what you mean. Three things man: 1.) Swimming 2.) Jogging/Running 3.) Jumping Rope No joke you'll burn that in no time. Also please do watch your oil and sugar intake. Stay away from Chips, Cookies, Candy, and Soda. Drink Green Tea. I prefer Arizona Green Tea. Drink it cold. It the best in the morning! Hope that helps. Later Days -Joel.
