Question: Hi! Over the past monthI be put on about 8-10 pounds, darn holiday food! But over the past year I've lost 50 pounds and im ready to get the scale back down to where it was. First I haven't noticed a change in my appearance or clothing fit(except food baby) so have I put on actual weight or water weight? And does weighing yourself everyday keep weight under control? I understand weight can change naturally from day to day but will it keep me from more pounds creeping on?

Weighing yourself everyday can be self destructive in weight loss. Think about it, if you weigh yourself and feel like your not progressing you either turn to emotional eating or your overwork yourself trying to make a change in the number. Try to weigh yourself no more than once or twice a week.

a lot of factors could determine it.. the amount of salt you have digested could affect it because salt will hold water.. the amount of food in your stomach.. a lot of things the best time to weigh yourself is in the morning when you wake up right after you go to the bathroom.. that is when it is the most accurate and to gain 8.5 lbs by water you would have to have almost two gallons of water in your body more than normal

The ones that effect you on a day to day basis is the quantity of salt intake and water intake combined....high salt causes your body to retain water and the weight on the scale will fluctuate accordingly. To gain 8.5 on the scale, you have to drink 8.5 lbs of water (weigh your gallon jug on a digital scale and multiply by the number of times you have to fill the jug to get to 8.5 lbs) ---immediately before being weighed - after 1/2 hour your body is already using the weater.

Weighing yourself every day can drive you crazy and cause you to stress. (And stress can cause weight gain, especially in women.) Maybe every 4 days or so to check your progress but not drive yourself so crazy.

Your baby is a big girl - both in length and in weight - but she is fairly even on both measures between the 75th and 90th percentile. Her weight gain during infancy does NOT correlate with her adult weight, and you don't have to try to limit her caloric intake to prevent obesity at this early stage. Feed her on demand. Imposing external cues for hunger (ie scheduling, withholding food, encouraging eating, etc) has been shown to increase a child's risk of obesity later. She knows what she needs to eat, so let her tell you when she is hungry and respond accordingly. She is not overweight. Babies who are breast fed are very, very rarely overfed. Talk with the pediatrician, but there is really no cause for alarm. Look at her growth here: http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/data/set...
