By running and dieting, eat healthy and be more active. There is no such thing as a diet without exercise. And drink nothing but water, soda and others things are really bad water just takes up water weight which you can sweat off. For dieting eat lean meats like fish and chicken breast, eat plenty of fruit, and calories are actually really good if you get them from right food sources and not junk food, calories give you energy to do your workout. And dont forget vegetables like spinach is really good for diet and greek yogurt with fruit and 0% fat is really good too.

Increase your daily intake of veggies and fruits - try to eat fruit for snacks instead of chips or cookies.
Drink water instead of soda.
Start every dinner off with salad or a vegetable.
Eat 5 mini meals a day, eating almost every 3 hours.
Try to do at least 30 mins of cardio a day even if it is just walking your dog.
You are right; it is bad to lose weight quickly because you usually gain back the weight or cause serious health problems. Aim to lose 1-3lbs a week at first.
save the kitchen and the dining room table for cooking and eating try not to use it as a place to do work or other activities or you may be tempted to eat more

Go see your doctor to talk about options and referring you to a Dietician. You can also walk 30+ min 3 times a week and that should be a good start or join a sports team. Don't eat fast food or candy or soda, cutting out even one of those will help greatly

Don't eat any junk food and only drink water!! You'll be amazed by how much weight you'll lose if you did just that. Don't check the scale everyday, only check every other day. Also exercise a bit, 30-60min a day, it'll make a difference. You can do it (:

For weight loss, dieting is more effective than exercise.
Reducing your intake of junk sugar will help as in items 22 and 106 in http://www.rheumatic.org/sugar.htm
The natural sugars in fruits are OK as they are metabolised to glucose slowly due to their high fiber content. Fruits are low in calories and are not fattening.
Most fruits are metabolism boosting foods and most vegetables as well and that helps for weight loss.
