Question: my metabolism is incredibly high. im 5:8 and im naturally buff and strong. my metabolism is incredably high (i can eat nothing but fatty foods and remain skinny) but the problem is, for some reason im getting skinnier and i cant gain wait. i havnt changed my diet, i havnt changed anything in the past couple years. so whats wrong with me? ive gone to a doctor and they are still doing test!?! whats wrong with me?!?!?!?!

I have a very high metabolism too. I haven't weighed over 140 pounds my whole life. I'm 5 foot 8 too. I eat and eat and eat, I am a garbage can! But I never gain a single pound! I lose weight! But, I'm athletic, I walk and play tennis a lot. But still, I never gain weight.

They are useless. There are things you can't control about your metabolism, and no product ever will. On the other hand, there are simple natural techniques, which will allow you to do it. What you can’t control about your metabolism: Age: Metabolism slows about 5 percent for each decade after 40. That’s because as we get older, we tend to lose muscle and gain body fat. Lean muscle mass is more metabolically active than fat tissue. So when you lose muscle mass, your metabolism slows down. Gender: Men generally have faster metabolisms than women because they’re larger and have less body fat. Men’s basal metabolic rate is estimated to be 10 percent to 15 percent higher than women’s. Hypothyroidism: An underactive thyroid will slow down your metabolism and ultimately lead to weight gain. The good news is that a simple blood test can determine whether you have this condition or not. If you do, you can control it with the proper medication. Genetics: Some people are lucky enough to be born with speedy metabolisms — and others are not. What you can control about your metabolism: Diet Don’t eat fewer than 1,000 calories a day. Your body and metabolism thrive on food. When you fast or crash diet, your metabolism will slow down in order to conserve energy. Imagine your metabolism as a blazing fire. If the fire burns consistently with the appropriate amount of high-quality wood, it will burn at a steady rate. But if it doesn’t have enough wood, the fire goes out. If it has too much wood, it can get out control — just like your waistline! Eat every four to five hours. Our bodies work hard to digest and absorb the foods we eat, and your metabolism revs up in response. This is called the thermic effect of food. Take full advantage of this and schedule meals and snacks every four to five hours. Make breakfast a priority. Studies show that people who regularly eat a healthy breakfast within two hours of rising are more likely to control their weight. This may be because you’re lifting your metabolic rate after it’s been in a “resting phase” during the night. Eat protein with every meal: All foods create a thermic effect and will slightly boost your metabolism. Several studies show that aerobic activities cause your metabolism to stay at an elevated level for a period of time after you have finished exercising. Work in strength-training exercise two to three days a week. Lifting weights and other strengthening activities, such as doing push-ups or crunches, on a regular basis will actually boost your resting metabolism all day. That’s because these activities build muscle. And once again, muscle burns more calories than body fat. In fact, if you have more muscle, you burn more calories — even if you’re sitting still. When it comes to supplements, I do not recommend them. The ingredients that are effective tend to boost metabolism only slightly and they can be risky. High doses of stimulants can make you jittery, and increase heart rate and blood pressure. The bottom line: The safest and most effective way to boost your metabolism is to eat an appropriate amount of food every four to five hours, incorporate a portion of lean protein into each meal, and exercise regularly!

Ok, it could honestly be anything with you since people in general are going to be different. I have heard though that its usually one-sided nutrition meaning that people who eat only junk food on a constant bases with nothing else are usually the ones that are rail thin. How that works out I'm still unaware but I'd say it would be great if you didn't result to the fatty foods. Everyone thinks that's the quickest way to weight gain and honestly its not. Eating healthy actually is the way to gain weight. I'm guessing that your in your teens still, and if I'm wrong then excuse me but if so then that could explain why. Many teens have a extremely high metabolism but once they get older around mid 20's I'd say all the food really catches up with you. So the easiest way for now would be eat healthy, lots of protein, and if you'd like to add muscle to that and not just pure weight work out while doing it.

Did you know that your metabolism is not entirely dependent on your genetic makeup. Sometimes your metabolic efficiency depends on the bacterial cultures you carry around in your intestines. Everyone has different bacteria, and yeast and fat people have very efficient ones which help them break down foods much better so they can be better metabolized. You could give them less efficient intestinal "flora" and give people like you better ones. Thin people need more normal microbes. So far they haven't worked this out, but you might be able to help yourself a bit by going to a health food store and buying a jar of high quality liquid "probiotics". You can add a spoonful of this to a shake as follows. Eat them on a daily basis for a while and it should help to reset your digestive microbes to ones that are normal. Probiotics are best in liquid form but must be refrigerated. Shake: milk, ice cream (add whatever you like, such as peanut butter, chocolate, bananas, berries for flavoring), 1 scoop of protein powder, 1 spoon of the liquid probiotics.

sorry i don't know um i'm scared for me too because lately it seems like i can't gain weight and i'm getting skinnier and skinnier too and i really want to gain weight bad i was born 12 years ago so i'm young and i'm scared i'm going to get really sick and people will talk about me and say your so skinny my friend even asked me if i was going on a starvation diet i used to be over weight i weighed 115 pounds at age 8 people think that i like being this skinny i used to have a pretty butt umm well ok you did'nt need to know that but nevermiind my bra size is even a little smaller crap! once i tryed eating all day and gained three pounds in one day but lost it in like one day. and this probly does'nt make you feel better but i just have to let it out

Eating some junk food will do nothing but benefit for you if you have a fast metabolism. If you want to gain weight, you have to do everything you can, and eat as much as you possibly can, and eat anything you can. In this case junk food is totally acceptable and in fact helpful. To gain, you need to up your calories to 5000cal/day.(this is where junk food comes into play) If you don't have time to eat, and you still want to up your calories, then go to McDonald's! If you have any further in-depth questions about diet or training, mail me or put them up on this same question. Thanks. - Yes, if you want to gain weight, you need to eat. You say you have a super-fast metabolism, so even if you eat junk food, you won't have to worry about it. You're already struggling enough to gain weight(it seems like), so you need to drive your body into a great calorie surplus. In your case, it doesn't matter what you eat, but in my case, I would have to eat a lot more, but still watch what I eat.
