I don't think stool softener would help you go INTO labor but it sure will help after you have the baby!!
Walking will help, sex can help also if you're up to it. Your doctor can also strip your membranes and as someone else said nipple stimulation - if you have a breast pump, use it. There are some natural remedies but I'm not totally sure of them.

Stool softeners don't make you defecate immediately. They're just supposed to make it easier to go to the bathroom the next time your body needs to. If you need to take something to help your body go to the bathroom immediately, you need a laxative.
Ask you doc about the stool softener. I know walking may help induce as well as stimulating your nipples. They say also the pressure point on the back of your anke could tigger. Congrats! And good luck.

hot food and baths aren't going to do anything, walk as much as you can handle. It will help baby drop and you dilate. But I was induced with my last one and it was great, baby came in a hour and half and I would prefer to be induced this time around.

Walk walk and walk!! That's the best advice--and take a stool softener *after* you have a baby. Trust me, you'll thank me later :p

Thats a tricky question - since stool softeners can be either a stool softener by itself, or with a laxative. The descriptions are somewhat subject to the manufacturer
If it has more than one ingredient, its likely a combination of a stool softner and a laxative - try to find one with one active ingredient - dulcolax and colace are two better known ones...
By the way - contrary to what a lot of people might think - dulcolax and colace are both natural...no kidding.
