Question: I'm currently on a low-carb diet. I don't have a ton of weight to lose, and so far its been successful. I want to enjoy some drinks tonight, and I realize that most hard liquor doesn't have carbs. What I want to know is this: Has anyone here had good experience drinking on a low-carb diet? Has it hindered your progress?

First, ALL alcohol is very HIGH carb. I'm not sure who informed you that it wasn't but they are mistaken. Second, I wouldn't look at your "Diet" as a diet instead it should be a way of life. Reason I state that is if you treat it as temporary thing then your weight loss will be temporary. Also calories are irrelevant. Make sure you follow a ratio of 3 to 1 protein and Veggie. (3 veggies to 1 meat) I have lived on a low carb diet for many years. I drink when it's time to party and I eat my share of "junk" The key is good nutrition absorbtion and good removal of the unwanted nutrients. To help you improve in your weight loss include a whole food vitamin in your program. It does depend on what type of multi-vitamin you are taking. The human body reacts differently to synthetic vitamins and "whole food" vitamins. There are many vitamins on the market and only a few of them can actually provide you with the necessary nutrients. What people do not understand is that synthetic nutrients are not absorbed into the body the same as organic nutrients. Many of the synthetics are flushed through our systems while the organics are absorbed more fully. After you have obtained a "whole food” vitamin purchase an organic potassium asporotate in a capsule form. Many of our health issues and weight gain is realized by low potassium consumption. You can never have enough potassium. Typically our diets are very "sodium" based so we need to consume 3 times the amount of sodium in potassium in order for our body to flush out the effects of the sodium. Now that is the basic…. Before I could recommend any other supplements I would need to know if you are currently taking ANY medication, what your typical diet is and then I would suggest a blood test to see what your levels are. For your info.... The two best whole food Multi-vitamins on the market is "More than a Multiple" by American health or a hypo-allergenic one for people with allergies they should use the "Life Essence master multiple" by Pure Essence Labs. Both are organic and can be found on the web. For potassium stick to a potassium asporotate like Solaray's Potassium Asporotate. I use the "More than a Multiple" and I take Potassium Asporotate by Solaray. I take about 600mg per day and more of the potassium if I eat junk food like Pizza, Hamburgers, etc. By the way, NO vitamin can be taken just once a day and be beneficial. A "minimum" of twice a day is always best I've listed some websites that have great prices for all.

NO, "LOW CARB DIETS" ARE VERY BAD..YOU CAN LOSE 30 LBS BY EATING HEALTHY FOODS ONLY AND WALKING,,BUT NOT IN 1 MONTH..THAT TYPE OF WEIGHT LOSS IS NOT NATURAL AND VERY BAD FOR HEALTH The MOST important thing is to eat naturally..without medicines, chemicals, "starving" your self etc. first, it would be best for you to eat as healthy as possible..this will also help you considerably to lose weight gradually and naturally.. eat fresh fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of WATER..avoid all cokes, caffeines, smoking, alchohol etc. as these also add weight as well as they contain chemicals which disturb your natural bio rythmns as well as brain chemistry. try not to eat too much meat, and the meat you should eat should be "lean meat" such as steamed chicken and rice, or steamed fish with rice..and vegetables,, this should be your staple diet rice and vegetables with fruits..AVOID "JUNK FOOD" and "Fast Food" as this type of food is very unhealthy, lacking in vitamins really and has plenty of fattening molecules which make one gain weight and is very bad for overall health. if you snack,, try fruits with yogurt or fruit yogurt and nuts.. nuts are very healthy for your body .and contain proteins. go for walks every evening or morning or whenever you get time each day for 1 hour or 2 hours..make this somewhere you enjoy walking even if you have to drive a bit to there..and make this a daily routine..you will enjoy it once you get into it ..and it makes you feel great after..just walking for 1 hour or 2 hours. if you do this..every day for one month ..you should lose around 10 pounds (.714 stone) per month until you get to your natural healthy weight.. look up on the internet for an idea of what your weight for your height should be ..and when you get to this weight,,your body will look very nice and you will feel very good. 10 pounds (.714 stone ) each month in 3 months you should lose 30 pounds (2 stones, 2 pounds)..for sure...but no junk food and dont drink alcohol or smoke, dont eat junk..just healthy food with vitamins and walking 1 hour or 2 hours every day..and drink plenty of water..this is guaranteed way to lose weight naturally and for good, if you stick to this, which you should,,as it makes you feel so much more positive due to the vitamins and lack of chemicals making you feel depressed... btw, forgot to mention,,just in case you dont know how to really make healthy meals..buy a "food steamer" at your local deparment store..they are very cheap and work very well..as well as buy a "rice cooker" which is also very cheap..eating rice is a great way to get your necessary carbs "healthy carbs" to lose weight and has lots of natural energy inside. you can buy asian rice at most large supermarkets or if you have a local oriental market..they sale quality asian rice.. thai or indian rice is good "jasmine rice".. buy corn or canola oil to sprinkle on vegetables or rice before steaming to add to taste as well as you can buy several nice spices like "cumin" or "Curry powders", etc.just sprinkle on the vegetables before steaming to give nice taste. drink "Green Tea" as this is very healthy and helps burn extra fat faster...you can buy quality green tea at most oriental shops or large supermarkets as well

The problem with drinking when you're on a diet is that alcohol indirectly causes the body to store fat. So you can't do it too often. I have been on a low-carb diet for a while now (combined with exercise) and yes it does work even with some occasional drinking. The thing to remember is not to deprive yourself so much that you give up on your diet. That would be worse than having a few drinks once in a while! Its what you do in the long run that counts.

I used to be an atkins freak....I drank Michelob Ultra, 2.6 grams of carbs per beer. As long as you count those carbs in with the rest and stay below that it is ok, but it does slow down the weight loss a bit. But hey, ya gotta live, and have a good time here and there. One night out will not make a difference tho! If you like vodka etc, thats the way to go, but just can't mix it with fruit juice! I wish ya the best of luck, I am on a diet right now too, but am trying the low-cal thing, I got burnt out on Atkins. Either diet works tho, depends on your taste buds. Have fun!!! There are a lot of good low-carb drinks available now, including beers and vodka mixers. Also, you can ask for mixed drinks to have diet pop in them (like a rum and diet coke).

Regardless of the carb content of alcohol, alcohol takes up all of your liver's attention. Your liver is essential to processing fat. Particularly because you don't have much fat to lose, this alcohol will make a big difference.

always have vegetables on hand saute a big bag of frozen mixed vegetables in olive oil and garlic add some red pepper or turmeric for additional flavor and separate into portion sized containers for the fridge
