ATKINS DIET INDUCTION PHASE: Why am I not losing weight though I am currently in Ketosis?
Topic: ATKINS DIET INDUCTION PHASE: Why am I not losing weight though I am currently in Ketosis?
July 20, 2019 / By Cierra Question:
I am totally confused. I am eating less than 20 net carbs a day, and have been for about 9 days now. I bought Ketostix to make sure I'm in Ketosis. I am...as the strips turn purple. Yet...I'm not losing weight. I'm not gaining, but not losing. Anybody who's had experience with Atkins want to lend me some advice?

I have to agree with Kimmer even though she isn't even a licensed dooctor or anything.
Are you measuring everything you eat? You may be consuming more carbs than you think. I suggest using fitday.com. You enter everything you eat in there and it keeps tracks of carbs, fat, cals etc...
You are prob loosing weight but it hasn't shown up on the scale yet. Do your clothes feel different?
I also recomend going to lowcarbfriends.com. It is a GREAT site for low carb support! there are thousands of people on there with advice, support and great recipes!
Don't listen to these people that say Atkins is a "hoax". It is a way of life, not a diet. You cant loose weight by low carbing then go back to eating hundreds or thousands of carbs each day and think you are going to keep it off.
So may think that you eat no carbs at all. You are eating healthy carbs. You do eat fruits and whole grains, despite what people think.
What does everyone think that people ate before processed foods came along????????? Meats, veggies, grains and fruits!!!
KH, you need to learn facts before posting stuff like that. Where exactly did you read proof that this has happened? Thousands of people have lowered their blood pressure, cholesterol and have gone off of meds for diabeties after following a low carb way of life for a while.

Well, from what I know, the atkins diet is focused solely on meat right? I've tried this diet and it worked for a while, but then it stopped and I found out why. All that meat I was eating, had high levels of salt in it, and you know consuming a lot of salt will make you retain and possibly gain water weight. So, my guess is that, unless it's fresh lean meat that your eating, like fish, chicken, turkey, all cooked at home without salt, your holding on to water weight because of high sodium levels.
The Atkins diet has to be one of the biggest hoaxes I've ever seen. If you did your homework, you would see that it is one of the least healthy (and most ineffective) ways to lose weight. My sister-in-law tried it and failed miserably. She's obese now.
Drs. Ornish and McDougall have a far more effective plan. There's no law that says you have to follow them completely, either. The biggest criticism to a primarily vegetarian diet is lack of essential fatty acids, vitamin B12, and zinc which can easily be made up with fish oils, and multivitamins. I subscribed to this diet in the fall of 2005. I lost 30 pounds in the first two months, and 15 more in the next two. I never went hungry, either. I maintained my "ideal" weight for several months afterward. Each time I fall off the diet, and start eating meat and dairy (fats) my weight goes up. Each time I get back on, my weight goes down. It's all about counting calories, staying active, and eating healthy foods. Fats (like bacon, pork, steak, butter, cheese, etc.) are simply not healthy. Seems like anyone with a little sense could figure that out.
Oh, I feel great, too.

for a thicker creamier texture choose low fat unsweetened greek yogurt loaded with protein calcium and natural probiotics it makes for a tasty snack any time

My husband lost 60 pounds in 6 months with the Adkins. It may depend on how overweight you are. It actually also could depend on your blood type. Low carb diets work best in people with type O blood.

Don't keep junk food inside your kitchen. If it's not right now there, you can't be tempted because of it.

yes but you have to be consuming enough calories. when you reduce the carb intake you have to make up for those calories by increasing both the protein and fat intake.
rice cakes are high GI, I would not consume them when losing body fat is the primary goal. they stimulate lipoprotein lipase (LPL) which is the gatekeeper to fat storage. any carbs that you do consume should be low GI like lentils, beans, oats, apples, cherries and of course any veggies. depending on how much you exercise and the type you may want to look into other low carb diets.
you can do an internet search on Lyle McDonald and TKD or CKD diets
