Question: I'm trying to lose some weight and I know that it all comes down to calories, but it seems like I am more successful when I go on a low carb diet because I am not constantly craving food and I have more energy. I still eat healthy- I don't gorge on foods like red meats and butter. I eat mostly fish, eggs, chicken, and nuts for protein. Fruits and vegetables that are low carb like berries. And cheese for calcium. I will occasionally have grains but only if it is a whole grain. Is that a good plan or are carbs really important? What happens if you don't get enough carbs?

"Low Carb Diet is not a sustainable diet program as it is too strict and make your life miserable as your body does not function properly. The basic picture in this diet program is to limit the amount of carbohydrates that are consumed, as carbohydrates turn into fat. So, you need to count the numbers of carb that go into your body and limit the amount according to your body type. When your body has a limited amount of Carb, it will goes to Ketosis state." Low carb diet is not safe for long run... trust me...

To lose weight you must consume fewer calories than you burn. Your body needs healthy (complex) carbs to perform properly so avoid low-carb diets (actually, avoid all 'diets'). To lose 1 lb a week you need a calorie deficit of 500 a day, that's true. You can lose up to 3 lbs/wk in a healthy manner by eating right and exercising regularly. Any loss faster than that, indicates an unhealthy method and greatly increases your chances of regaining the weight. Make a lifestyle change, don't go on a diet. Diets are temporary so what happens when you get off of them? You regain the weight. You need a health eating plan you can stick with indefinitely...and regular exercise to lose the weight, and to keep it off when you reach your goal. Anyone that tells you to avoid carbs or protein or any other element is steering you down an unhealthy path. You need carbs (good ones), lean protein, healthy fats, fruits and veggies, and consume plenty of water. Good luck!

You have a great mind set and your plan sounds like a good one! I too live an VERY LOW CARB (even lower than you) lifestyle and I think it works perfectly. Oh and by the way, all calories are not created equally - grains are a lot worse than proteins which is why it's always emphasized to eat WHOLE WHOLE grains! And as for your cheese... well that's the main downfall in your diet because you can obtain enough calcium from the fish & leafy greens you eat! Oh and don't forget to get enough vitamin D (in the sun or supplement form) - it's a KNOWN weight loss aid & cancer fighter!

Before I answer your question, you sound like me...sort of. I'm 17 years old; 6ft; 182-183lbs; male In January, I was 230lbs... You're on the track of becoming much much healthier. To begin, drink nothing but water...once you're under 200, you can drink other things such as chocolate milk, etc...for your water, you can get these things called Mio Flavor Enhancers, they come in different flavors, try them out. Stay away from SoBe Lifewater as it has sugar in it. Keep up the jogging, combined with a healthy diet...you'll notice rapid weight loss at first, it's normal, as it's mostly water weight in the beginning anyways, as you begin losing weight, you'll start to notice your body toning up and losing inches.
