I'm on a low carb diet and I have one good snack for the day at 130 calories. I need one more. Got any ideas?

Question:
I have an Atkins bar worth about 3 net carbs. I have that in the morning but I need another snack later in the day and I haven't' a clue what to use. It has to be low carb and I would like the calories to be 150 or less. I'm looking for ideas.

Tallula | 10 days ago
Pepperoni baked in the oven crisp (end up like chips)
Or low carb tortillas cut in triangles, brushed with olive oil, salt and baked.
celery with guacamole (awesome, trust me!!!)
The good ole lunch meat, cheese and cram cheese rolled up
Almonds
Beef sticks
A couple of dill pickles

You only need to cut back your carbs to a level that keeps your blood sugar under control. You don't necessarily have to eat "low carb" foods. The body needs a minimum of 130 grams of carbs per day. That means if you are eating less than 130 grams of carbs per day you are eating too few and can run into other problems. But your carbs do need to be spread out throughout the day. So you couldn't just save up all 130 minimum and eat them all in one meal...too much for most people. Most men can handle between 45-60 grams per meal just fine. Others can handle more. It just depends on your blood sugar--check you blood sugar 2 hours after you eat. If your blood glucose is close to 140 or under...you're doing well. If you are way way over then your body may not be able to handle that many carbs. But it's a little more complext than that too...so best to go to a Diabetes Center and see a registered dietitian and diabetes educator.
But as for sweets here is a short list:
-Sugar Free (artificially sweetened) Jello
-Sugar Free pudding pops
-Fruit--all fruit is good as long as you stick to one portion
---- strawberries are in season and delicious with a little low fat whipped cream!
-2-3 Hershey's Kisses
-Sugar Free hot cocoa
Basically anything with no more than about 15-20 grams of carbs is a decent dessert.

I do low calorie and fat. Why? Because I had a lot of weight to lose (20 lbs to go) and after you are on low carb for awhile (I think the study said about a year), you will begin to gain back the weight. And you are damaging your heart with the fat. I also never feel deprived because I can eat small amounts of pasta, bread, etc. Plus, carbs are in fruit and veggies -- so how bad can they be for us? You may never lose weight on low cal and fat because you aren't tracking your food closely enough (it is easier to know what to avoid on low carb) and don't make the right food choices -- you should try to get 3 servings of fruit and 4 veggies per day. You also need to exercise.

I am doing Atkins too (down 37 lbs since Jan) and for a snack, I have diet Jello and some whipped cream with Splenda. Does it for me! Good luck, btw. I do not count calories, however, just carbs. And that snack has very few.

Hm, well there are these Special K crackers - they are only 90 calories per serving. If you eat the recommended 17 crackers. But the other serving is 24 crackers, and the calorie amount in that is 120, which isn't too bad.
But anyway, that's one...also, there are Ezquiel muffins that are only 80 calories, and are very low carb. =)
Hope this helps a bit!

blutoadmirer,
Glucoholic.com has a section designed specifically for you. I'm a type 2 diabetic and decided to publish reviews of the products that I found in my quest to identify low carb and sugar free snacks, drinks, and foods. I hope it will be a help to you!

How about a quarter or half an apple with deli slices of meat?
Adjust the carbs of the type of fruit depending on how many carbs you still have remaining...
In a low carb diet, you need not worry about your calorie intake... just your carb intake...

A banana, or a piece of fruit? Surely every diet needs these.
Or a handful of nuts. Yum. Pepitas. Or almonds. Brazil nuts. Sunflower seeds. You could vary. I tend to go for unsalted mix (with peanuts is cheaper) but you could have a different nut every month. Not sure how many is 150 calories or less (I don't count) but a small handful is good.

Edamame has become my life! Also known as soy beans. They are sooo good. I get mine in the freezer section in a steamer bag...pop them in the microwave, dip them in soy sauce, and basically just suck the beans out. They are delicious! Good source of protein.
