I've been watching my calories lately but I hear low carb is a better way to go. Where to start?

Question: I love white rice, I know I have to cut down on that but what's a good replacement? I don't like brown rice. I eat a lot of grain. I eat a lot of whole wheat bread and plain whole wheat cereal. Is that bad? How about beans? I love beans but are they bad for my diet? I don't eat red meat anymore, only turkey and chicken. Also, I eat yogurt for snacks, I find the one with about 100cals. I like to eat them with granola. Is granola bad for low-carb? Any more suggestions?

Low carb is not the way to go. It may help you lose weight but it plays havok with your arteries. A good diet is about 40% carbs and it's not possible to be healthy without them. Wholewheat bread, cereal and granola are great for you and you should not try to cut these out of your diet. It sounds like you're eating pretty healthily and it would be a shame to change that. Keep up the good work. X

Try adding good healthy foods to your diet, forget about counting and stressing, add a little exercise to rev up the metabolism, and don't wait until your 29 or 39 do get healthy.

To maintain your weight, considering you do not participate in much exercise, I would advice you to eat around 1000-1500 calories a day. Although, saying that, that is no more then an estimated average. It is fine to allow yourself the occasional day where you go under or over your intake. You really should stat exercising though - especially if you intent to maintain/lose weight.

Low carb is good, you can get alot of replacement stuff that says low carb. I would suggest finding another version of your granola say at whole foods, things that a wheat and gluten free usually tend to be lower in carbs and they have great tasting food for that. I would reccommend going to a health food store and asking them what they would reccommend. i say whole foods because the people that work there are great and know what they're talking about.

Low Carb is the way to go, but you need to eat fat. Fat does not make you fat, your body uses it as energy, and what's left over is burned off as heat. Here is a link that tells you how many grams of carb to shoot for and what foods are ideal. I have had a lot of success so far and so have a lot of people. Good luck!
