Topic: Constipation problem? laxatives?
November 13, 2019 / By Annalee Question:
well im a 15 year old female and I can't go to the washroom without a laxative.
I take laxaday powder stuff in my drink once a day to make me use the washroom, but I ran out and i wanted to see if I could still go to the washroom.. But I can't.
Is it bad to still use a laxative, or to always use a laxative?
I would simply eat alot more veggies, since I love them so much but I cant eat raw veggies because I have braces, a cemented retainer and also bite pads on my wisdom teeth, so I cant chew properly.
My question is, is it bad that I need a laxative to poo everyday? or is it even more bad that Im not using one to poo everyday?
sorry, my doctor actually requested it for me, and told me to use it for a week and see if that helps... but I think i need it for the rest of my life :(

As the above have mentioned, laxatives are not good for the digestive system, your doc
most likely suggested it to restart your bowel movements. From your side, you have to
make a commitment and implement foods with high fiber everyday with every meal to
regulate your bowel movements. You have the option of drinking vegetable and fruit juices,
eating soft or mashed veggies, fruits / powdered nuts, foods. Decrease foods with high fat and high
protein (meat products) which can promote
constipation. Drink 1 to 2 liters of water daily. You can institue fiber supplements like metamucil,
citrucel if you find it difficult to drink and swallow mashed veg/fruits, but natural foods are better
than supplements. Ask your doc/pharmacist.
Exercise daily for 1/2 hr. Also certain yoga postures help promote bowel movement, learn from a
yoga teacher. Simple Poses For Constipation Cure. Surya Namaskara(Sun Salutation Pose),
Tada Asana, Trikonasana, Pawanamuktasana, Bhujanghasana (Cobra Pose), Shalabhasana (Locust Pose), Dhanurasana (Bow Pose), Yoga Mudra, Paschimotanasana (Head to Knee Pose), Vajrasana(Diamond Pose).
Take a multivitamin daily since you are in a growing phase.
These are the foods you should implement, choose to your liking. Women need 21 to 25 gms of fiber per day.

Yes, it is bad that you need a laxative every day to have a bowl movement. Persons can become addicted to laxatives like nasay spray, cigarettes, alcohol. You need to increase your fiber content if you cannot eat raw veggies. Try Kellogg's Bran Buds or Fiber One. These dry cereals provide 50% of daily fiber. Have two bowls a day and get 100% of daily fiber. You are not giving your intestines a change to digest food and move it to your colon to expell. You may not be aware that you lose beneficial electrolyzes that regulate your heart and reduce your liquid intake that is necessary to have normal bowel movements. If you are trying to lose body weight with laxatives, it is a dangerous situation, and you should discontinue forced bowel movements. If you stop laxatives, it will take some time to return your bowels to normal, so eat as much fiber as you can each day and drink much more fluid of any kind. No one needs a daily laxative unless ordered by a nurse or doctor. Be strong. You can do it!
The laxaday powder should say on the side of it that if you experience constipation for greater than a certain # of days to contact your doctor as this may be a sign of something more serious. You should see your doctor if you need the Laxaday to have a bowel movement everyday.
Unless that powdery laxative stuff is Metamucil or another fiber supplement, I would find another doctor. Daily use of stimulant (Dulcolax) or osmotic (Miralax, Milk of Magnesia...) laxatives leads to laxative dependency and increased dependence on laxatives in order to have a BM.
- Increase your daily fiber intake.
- Increase your water intake.
- Increase your daily activity and exercise (walk, run or ride a bike)
- Set aside time to poop
