Question: I'm a 19 year old male. In the past 6 months, I've lost about 54 pounds or so. It's been great. I have been working out a lot and going to the gym religiously. I do both cardio and weight lifting. I went from 268 pounds to 213/214 pounds at the moment. Now I've hit a weight loss plateau and I can't lose anymore weight and I'm constantly hungry. I still workout and go to the gym but I am constantly weak and I think it might be due to the hunger I experience. I have never never been constantly hungry in my life. I have two questions 1. Am I hungry because my body has hit a higher metabolism? 2. Is my hunger the cause of my current weight loss plateau?

On average, people eating reasonable portions of balanced meals get hungry about every three to five hours. Check the balance of foods you eat. Refined carbohydrates like white rice, baked goods and most crackers or pretzels are processed by the body fairly quickly. That means that blood sugars go up and back down rapidly, tending to leave you hungry again within two hours. Whole-grain breads and cereals are processed more slowly and may leave you satisfied longer. Studies show that hunger is satisfied longer when a meal or snack includes a small amount of protein. That doesn't have to mean meat. Protein is also found in milk, cheese, yogurt, tofu and other soy products, eggs, nuts, seeds and dried beans. Also, vegetables and fruits are missing from many Americans' meals, yet they provide bulk that can help satisfy hunger. Have you let a low fat diet get too low in fat? Fat leaves the stomach very slowly, so a small amount of fat in a meal keeps hunger satisfied. If your goal is weight loss, excess hunger could be a sign that you've cut your calories too low or that you are pushing to reach a weight that is too low for you. Finally, consider this: Are you actually physically hungry all the time, or do you simply feel like eating? Eating when you're not hungry can mean that eating has become a habit for coping with boredom, procrastination or stress. If this is the case for you, the key is to develop ways to handle these situations without food. If you address all these possibilities and still feel hungry all the time, talk with your physician. Constant hunger not related to any of these factors could be due to medication or a medical problem that needs attention.

Ok, something here is not right. If you've lost all that weight and have managed it by a combo of diet and exercise you should not be weak. Frankly by now you should be bouncing off the walls. Make sure you take a couple of days consecutively off from going to gym to give your body time to repair. Make sure you are sleeping enough. Have a look at your diet and see if there are ways you can keep the calorie count to it's current level (as this seems to have worked so far) while decreasing refined sugar as much as possible (simple carbs bad, complex carbs good), not too much fat though some is essential, and boosting your protein intake. Regards your specific questions: 1) Odd as it may seem if you've gone from a sedentary 268lbs to an active 214lbs the difference in your resting metabolism is probably not that much. I'm guessing that if you changed what you are eating, increasing the bulk while maintaining the calories you may find the hunger diminishes. 2) Weight loss can be cyclic. Be content for it to plateau for a couple of weeks or so, but do reflect on what you are doing with a view to reinvigorate your regime when you resume going at it full pelt!

How is your thirst? And urinating patterns? Maybe try de-worming tablets. Could be a harmless cause. If you are having other symptoms, it may be something more serious. Go so not diabetes, you would have been really thirsty. I think try de-worming, you can get de-worming tablet at any pharmacist. well in South Africa you can. If it then does not improve go to the doctor. Just for interest sake, when I was between 18-21 I suddenly also ate like a pig, I was hungry ALL the time! Turned out some people just need more food at that age. Although I did not loose wait, just staid the same. For the best answers, search on this site https://smarturl.im/aDLbA

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read. I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off. It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise. Get started today!

I have a question too. Did you follow a low calorie diet ? And did you eat the same thing for days ? You know, there is one BIG problem with the same meal plan every day : your metabolism gets used to it. You don't lose weight now because your metabolism got used to burn fewer calories and now you'll have to try calorie shifting to speed up your metabolism You can do this by eating 5-6 small meals per day. I know you heard it a million of times, but in your case is crucial to continue losing weight. Eat meat because after every meal based on lean meats, your metabolism increases with 30% ( did you know this ? ) Drink as much water as you can. You can never drink enough water. Water is 70% of your muscles. About your hunger....well, now are you feeling what your body felt when you started dieting. Your body is ' afraid ' that you lose so much weight and is trying to give you signals like ' SOS, give me more food, I'm trying to keep your fat cells full here ', but you mustn't do what your body asks. Not this time. Our bodies aren't so smart to know that you want to lose weight. And this is like you'd been abandoned on an island and you don't have food. I mean your body thinks that. But you have the mind and you have to think and go on with your diet, not your body. Your body is dumb. Just think why you got fat. If your body would know when you eat too much then it would burn all the calories, but no, the body deposits them and that's why you get fat. So be strong and let your body screaming. From the inside, I mean. You have to continue, it's awesome that you made it this far. And remember that dieting and exercising is always just as painful as pleasant is eating and not moving. Depending on how you lived until now determines how hard it will be in the next days, weeks, months. And you can make it. Just don't give up because summer is coming, you don't want to go there with a fluffy tummy, do you ? :-)

Try posting the diet you're on. If you're cutting your food intake too much, it could just be that your body is reminding you it needs a certain amount of fuel to function. Dieting for weight loss should be a life change - eating three square meals, balancing your protein, veg and carbs, using slow-release energy foods like combined protein and complex carbs, and cutting out sugars. Add to that a significant increase in your exercise levels, and within a few weeks, you should start to see a steady and sustainable improvement, both in your weight and your shape. Any crash diets will only result in your body going into famine mode, and you will actually end up putting on more weight than ever when you start to eat normally again.
