Okay, number 1: If you have gained a significant amount of weight in a year, and you can't control it (or the eating) on your own, it's time to speak with your doctor. Huge weight gains are extremely dangerous to your physical health and detrimental to your mental health. Consideration needs to be given if this is the only medicine that works or if you are severely bipolar. When I was your age, I was placed on depakote for bipolar and borderline. I gained 100 lbs in less than a year, I couldn't function in school or at home, and I was pretty much a zombie. I do better without medication and with just therapy, because the side effects are too much for me. DO NOT QUIT YOUR MEDICINE WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR DOCTOR FIRST. I would try dieting and exercise for the next 3 months, and if nothing happens, it's time to talk to your psychiatrist. It is okay to get a second opinion if they are opposed to anything else. If more than one doctor says, "yes, you need this medication," then you need the medication. However, any reasonable, rational doctor realizes that your overall health, the combination of mental, physical, and emotional health, is the most important thing.
I lost an incredible amount of weight by decreasing my portions, choosing healthier foods, and walking. Granted, I walked about 3 miles a day (which you can do in about an hour-hour and a half). With this medication, you MUST be getting plenty of nutrients, which is better done with a healthy diet over vitamins. Soda is horrible for dieting. If you must have soda, which I was very bad about, drink a glass of water first. It will decrease the amount of soda you can drink.
Drink lots and lots of water. My aunt worked as a nurse for companies such as Nutri-system. For all their fancy, pricy meals and services, do you know what ALL of these companies had in common? The clients who lost the most weight and kept it off were the ones who drank 64 oz of water a day. It is the cheapest and best dieting secret out there, besides a healthier diet.
I dropped 20 lbs in 2 weeks (which isn't hard when you're rather heavy, like I was), by eating a strict diet and walking 3 miles a day. I had toast and yogurt for breakfast, a turkey and cheese sandwich for lunch, and salad with a turkey sandwich for dinner. I didn't drink water and I still drank a ton of soda (which hurt me). Unfortunately, I hit a plateau after 2 weeks, which isn't uncommon with that much of a drop in calories and an increase in exercise like that. Drinking water also helps to prevent hitting that point where you can't seem to drop any more weight.
I've been where you are. About two months ago I started the "common sense diet" - burning more calories than what you eat. I've lost 20 pounds so far!
I've been blogging about my journey, hopefully it helps you -
"lose weight fast" is a ticket to a lifetime of obesity and yo-yo dieting. The only way to lose weight effectively is to eat healthfully and intelligently and to get out and move around. Make good choices about food, eat small meals more often, and get some sort of exercise every day.
Other diets are more unhealthy than doing nothing at all... they tax your body's systems and eventually result in overeating and weight gain.
keep in mind main meal is required and others are getting fat in, so do not eat snack or other food out of main meals. Eat less sweet, fat and creamy food. Eat more veges. Soy is good too (Soy is one of fat food, but it's healthy fat, so no worry). do NOT eat anything later than 7 pm or 2 hours before sleeping. Exercise CONSTANTLY 1-2 hours/ 1day. And remember not to skip meal.
take a break from blue moon belgian white a 164 calorie treat and grab a miller genuine draft which is only 64 cals
swap out brown rice or quinoa yes even the new super food which both add up to about 220 calories per cup for cauliflower or roasted peppers that are only about 30 calories per cup
