It does, to some extent. This is due to the fact green tea is a source of caffeine and caffeine burns off fat. Hence, this makes green tea a good agent to to speed up your metabolism to burn off fat. I've some thoughts here about green tea and metabolism which you might be interested to red about: http://www.perfect-body-toning.com/green... I would say just going for green tea alone will not cut it. Exercise and eating a healthy, well-balanced nutritious diet that promotes weight loss is still the best combo around to fire up your metabolism, to burn off the excess fat and calories.

Scientific studies show that green tea contains caffeine and catechins - these two compounds are paramount in helping to burn fat and increase metabolism. Unfortunately your bottled green tea will do little. A study conducted by USDA shows that regular green tea contains by far the most catechins. 100 millimetres of regular green tea contains 127 milligrams of catechins. Instant green tea has only 12 milligrams. The healthiest green tea is loose green tea, really high grade stuff made from very young tea shoots. I have written an article in the link below to explain why. Enjoy.

I avoid tea. Makes me pee like crazy (it's diuretic) so I get dehydrated and get chapped lips. Get a higher metabolism by building muscle mass...the weight loss miracle.

It does, but not by much. But either way, it has a whole bunch of other benefits, so there's no harm in drinking it.
