Question: So about the middle of march i became a vegetarian because i lost the interest and satisfaction from eating meat. I gave up dairy when i was eating meat but since im veg i only eat cheese and a little bit of milk but it's mostly cheese. The only thing ive been eating is rice and beans everyday and sometimes ill put a lot of feta cheese. I sometimes make homemade pizza and i eat that sometimes too. As for snacks i eat fruits and i have been trying to eat raw vegetables like cucumber. Basically i just am in need of advice from vegetarians on how to eat healthy because i am replacing most of my meats with cheese and little vegetables. I also need some very tasty recipes for vegetarians. Thanks.

Beans are an important part of a vegetarian diet. They are a good source of protein and make a complete protein in combination with rice, corn, or another grain. You should eat a variety of different beans. Go to any large grocery store and look for canned beans in the canned vegetable aisle and start trying different kinds. Black, pinto, kidney, chick peas, etc. Dark green leafy vegetables such as: spinach, broccoli, kale, collard greens, Swiss chard, beet greens, etc. are also important. Eggs are a good source of protein, but are high in cholesterol so no more that 2 per day and no more than 7 per week. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Try to eat every color of the rainbow in fruits and veggies every week. Go easy on high fat proteins such as peanut butter and cheese.

to be a vegetarian its a good idea to plan what you are going to eat. if you are going to be a vegetarian you need to eat something with protein in it. try eating chia seeds on your food. you can get them at health food stores or online. i have to warn you they are a little expensive but its worth every penny. they have lots of protein and fiber in them and you can put them on almost anything if you are going to eat eggs you can eat them in salads and for breakfast. i don't recommend it though. chickens are the most abused animals on earth. also, you should try to include fruits and vegetables in most of your meals like with breakfast: for grains eat whole grain toast. for fruit you can eat any kind of fruit you want. for vegetables you can eat as a snack afterward if you want to become a vegan when you master the whole vegetarian thing you can make tofu scrambled eggs. im not sure how to make it though. what has lots of protein is nuts, seeds, legumes, and peanut butter. if you still need help you can go to happycow.net. theres a chat room you can go to. the people are really nice and its the safest chat room you can go to. tell them that vegetarian13 told you about it if you are looking for ideas on a meal, here are some ideas: spaghetti with meatballs made out of red kidney beans (spaghetti has lots of protein in it) white rice with black eyed peas portobello mushrooms, sauteed with BBQ seasoning on them and vegetables and a baked potatoe (the mushroom tastes like steak if you don't like mushrooms) spanish rice and bean and cheese burrito you can look up vegetarian recipies online and get lots of easy recipies. another idea is to go to wal mart and get the frozen meals. watch out for lard though. its in some refried beans. its not vegetarian

Cheese and a little veges will not replace meat. If you are a person not done growing being vegetarian is not a good idea. There are lots of websites with much better information than you are going to get from a bunch of yahoos. Read up on protein requirements and how to get the protein you need on a vegarian diet.

You act as though there is so little that is vegetarian...have you forgotten a simple baked potato? Or steamed green beans, tomatoes, Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, etc. You don't have to eat raw veggies to be a vegetarian...you can eat ALL veggies, all fruits, all nuts, seeds, all types of dry beans, all sorts of whole grain foods like bread, pasta, rices, all types of fruits, too.

Don't buy junk food, buy healthier snack food. Lots of fruit, nuts and seeds, etc. Look for recipes for nice-looking healthy vegetarian snacks, and make your own. When you eat your healthy meals, eat just a little bit more, if you find that means you're not as hungry between meals and not reaching for the junk. Get into the habit of eating porridge for breakfast - much healthier than most processed cereals which have huge amounts of sugar, and are basically junk foods pretending to be healthy. Porridge also really fills you up, so you probably won't feel like snacking until it's time for lunch. Put chopped fruit, nuts, seeds (e.g. chia, sunflower, pumpkin etc), molasses, tahini, soy milk, or any other healthy addition on top of your porridge to make it interesting - the combination can change each day for variety.
