Can I lose weight with the CHIP program? Yes, weight loss is one of the great benefits of this lifestyle change program. Participants have lost as much as 34 pounds in 12 weeks and on average lose about 7 pounds in that time. But more importantly, participants lower their risk for heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, some cancers, diverticular disease and other diseases strongly affected by lifestyle choices. Aren't genes the most important factor in determining a person's health? According to the U.S. Surgeon General, genes account for only 10% of our health status. Medical care and environment each also account for 10%. Lifestyle choices are responsible for the remaining 70%--making them by far the No. 1 factor in determining our health. Is CHIP just for people who already have had a heart attack? The lifestyle changes suggested in the CHIP program can help prevent, arrest and even reverse heart disease, making it beneficial not only to people who have had a heart attack, but also those at risk for a heart attack and those who simply want to be proactive about their heart health. In addition, CHIP can help address and prevent many other lifestyle-related diseases. Is CHIP a diet? The CHIP Optimal Diet is one of four components of the CHIP lifestyle change program. Unlike fad diets, the CHIP Optimal Diet doesn't require the counting of calories or carbs, eating a lot of one thing or depriving the body of food. It's a science-based eating plan that encourages consuming less processed, fatty, sugary, salty and high cholesterol foods and more "foods as grown," including whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables. The other three equally important components of the program include getting consistent exercise, avoiding tobacco products, and developing a positive attitude and support system.

Fruit, nuts, milk and water plus lentils, veggies and bread is a very healthy package and includes adequate protein. It is basically a healthy lacto vegetarian diet. You don't reallty need any meat, poultry, sea food or eggs. You are getting plenty of complete protein from your milk and your lentils/bread combination. Nuts and bread also complement each other to give you more complete protein.

I eat a diet of all raw fruits and vegetables, and have virtually no gas at all(and it has NOTHING to do with FIBER). The reason is because of proper FOOD COMBINING. That is the key. Look into Herbert Shelton about this topic. But basically, there are diff types of foods: starches, protein, fat, sweet fruit, acid fruit, sub-acid fruit, melons, vegetables, even lettuce/celery has it's own group, etc. Too much to go into right here. The thing is, digestion is a chemical process, and in order to digest a certain type of food requires certain chemistry in the stomach. So what happens if you eat two(or more) totally diff types of food at the same meal? Not good digestion for either food. Think about it. When do you ever see an animal in nature eat different kinds of food at the same time? The less cross-over combining you do at the same time, the better. Some of these groups go okay with certain others. Some go badly with others. For example, sweet fruits go okay with sub-acid fruit, and sub-acid fruit goes okay with acid fruit, but sweet fruit does not go well with acid fruit. Again, check out Herbert Shelton or maybe T.C. Frye. The second thing is that I do not eat grains(and my health is much better than when I used to eat them!). Starches ferment in our system and contribute to gas and body odor, plain and simple. Now they usually just cause a "normal" amount of gas and b.o. which most people have(although to someone on my diet, these things are no longer normal at all). Btw, meat gets rancid which also produces it's own particular brand of stink. But your case sounds more extreme, so that tells me that it is the starch fermentation compounded with some improper food combining(like starches and certain fruits). And I'll just bet that those grains are a large proportion of your diet. Again, fiber itself has nothing to do with this. Fiber is roughage that goes thru, undigested, and gives body to fecal matter. It is impossible for it to be the cause of gas. Don't listen to anyone who says it is. They mean well, but they are uninformed. I would say, first cut back on the grains, and get your calories from fruit. I would say that is good advice for anybody! Fruit is so much better for you. The other thing I would say is research proper FOOD COMBINING. I think that will take care of it! Good luck.
