Question: Im 16 and turning 17 very soon and weigh around 123 pounds. I'm very athletic and pretty much do not have any fat on me, just muscle. I do work out a lot--I do 200 push ups a night, some bicep curls, and dumbbell presses. I don't have access to a bench press yet, but I'm looking into purchasing one. I do not have access to a gym either. I am getting small results and I feel they should be much better for the amount of work I am putting into it. I think I have a very high metabolism because I eat a ton and rarely gain weight. Should I take protein supplements? I want to see bigger and better results. Is there any other at home exercises I can do? Any tips on what foods to eat? Basically, I want to see a lot more muscle and weigh at least 140 pounds in the next 3 months. PLEASE HELP!

To bulk up, you should increase the protein intake in your diet. Eatting lots of chicken is great. If you want, you could start taking protein shakes, as well. They can be pricey, though. Right now it seems like you do a lot of lighter weights higher reps? If that is the case, you want the inverse: heavier weights lower reps. Also, make sure you have intensity in your workouts. Be sure to push yourself. When you get done working out, your muscles should feel pretty exhuasted. Variance is also crucial. If you keep doing the same few lifts, your body will essentially adapt to it, thus making it less effective, since you're not really pushing or challenging your body as much. It is integral to switch it up and do different lifts to keep your body from getting too accustomed to what you're doing. Good luck man!

In order to do that properly, you need to not only perform upper body exercises, you need to also set aside portions of your workout time for the lower body. While lower body workouts do not directly tear up your upper-body muscle groups, the lower body contains extremely large muscle groups. Working these groups supports upper-body growth by triggering greater growth hormone release.

Sounds like you're not doing the right movements and eating right. Without being there I don't know what movements you're doing or food you're eating, but keep it clean and eat a surplus of calories and you'll slowly pack on the pounds and muscle. And there's no way to JUST build up your upper body, your body will slow the weight gain process so that it your lower body can keep up or stay relatively proportional. The 200 push ups are not going to do it. I have a brother that was built just like you but wanted more size. He purchased the Joe Weider weight lifting course and followed it. He also followed their plan for foods and extra protein. He also wanted size. After two years, there wasn't much difference. But he was solid. (but about the same) He joined the army and when he came home from basic training, he came home two weeks early.
