Question: Im 16 and i weigh around 240-250. I need to make a change in my life and i need to lose weight. Eventually i would like to lose around 70-100lbs. How can I do this? Are diet pills an option? I really need help so any advice is appreciated

Do not take pills. No colon cleanse. No diets. You're right in saying that you need to make a life change. (1) Stop eating junk and processed foods. They're not good for you and destroy your body. (2) Exercise! We were hunters at some point. Can you hunt just sitting down and eating cookies all day? Start slowly and don't push yourself to the point of hurting yourself. Start with walks and eventually increase the intensity. The effectiveness of a work out is all dependent on the "EFFORT." (3) Psychologically believe in yourself. Your results also depend highly on what's going on in your head. It is up to you whether you want success or not. Self-sabotage is easily accomplished. You have to push yourself to sacrifice the tasty treats and eat salad with lean chicken everyday. (4) Be a kid! You're 16-years-old! Sign up for something you can be active with. Go do karate, dance class, basketball camp, or something of that nature. Live your life. The world is a beautiful place and you should go out and enjoy it. Simply put, you just need to eat right and exercise. You should learn to do this naturally without ever forcing yourself to do it. Eventually, you'll love eating that way and you'll love being active. It takes time, but once you get there you'll never go back.

At 13, your body is retaining more fat because your body is also producing more estrogen to make you less child like and more womanly. Estrogen is the hormone that causes women to retain fat during pregnancy. Therefore, if you can avoid eating meats and dairy products with added estrogen (any meat, eggs, cheese, milk, etc that isn't organic), you can avoid getting an EXTRA dose of estrogen. Additionally, exercise at a level 7 or 8 out of 10 for 45 - 60 minutes 3 times a week. This is exercising hard enough that you can't hold a conversation with another person while doing it. It can be anything from speed walking, hiking, swimming (swimming is a little tricky and I'll tell you why in a second), rowing, doing exercises at home like push-ups, situps, jumping jacks, squat thrusts, burpies, etc. - - as long as you're doing it hard enough that you couldn' t have a conversation with another person while doing it. It is at that strenuous level that you are able to burn fat rather than just calories. Swimming is a tricky one because if the pool is chilly, then your body also gets the message to retain fat to keep you warm. This is why you'll notice that even olympic swimmers (especially females), though completely lean and fit, seem to have a small layer of body fat - - unlike a female gymnast who does not. Drink LOTS of water all day long. If you're able to do this, you will lose weight - but don't go crazy. 5'6" and 140lbs is not overweight.

Keep in mind that you are in your prime for losing weight as your body is in "puberty years". As a 16-year-old your metabolism is still high and losing weight is highly possible. Are you losing weight for the right reason? Ask yourself why you are losing weight. It really needs to be all about you. 2. Realize that diet pills alone will not help you lose weight. You need to be self motivated. 3. Begin to really change your eating habits, or continue eating whatever you like, but cut your portions. Start keeping a food log, seeing what you eat on paper can really help you realize a few things. 4. Start exercising, a little goes a long way. Start by stretching, going on walks so your body becomes accustomed to it and gradually intensify your workouts. 5. The next time you crave for foods that are unhealthy, really ask yourself why, then eat an apple :) 6. Stay committed. Come up with realistic goals, such as "Today I will run 2 laps" and reward yourself. 7. Do not try to eliminate your favorite unhealthy foods, because in time you'll binge the moment you crave it. Instead limit your portions.

Loosing weight fast is always an unhealthy thing. There are many diets who tell you that you can loose a lot of weight in no time. And it is working, but you are doing no good to your body. And there's also the Jojo-effect. The best thing to loose and hold a healthy weight is healthy food, less sugar, lots of drinking water, and sports. Diet has to begin in your head. And you already started to think about your nutrition. That's an important step. It is too easy just to make a magazine-diet for 2-3 weeks and loose some weight. But it will come back soon again. If you are over-thinking your nutrition and activity, you will have a constantly good result. Isn't that much better and healthier than a crash-diet ? - Healthy life every day! Take care, :-)
